The third major of the 2025 PGA season takes place this week as a strong field of 156 players heads to Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, for the 2025 U.S. Open. The first major of the year, the 2025 Masters, saw Rory McIlroy make history when he became the sixth golfer to complete a career Grand Slam. In the second major of the year, the PGA Championship, Scottie Scheffler won the event for the first time. This week, Bryson DeChambeau looks to join the small group of players who have won the U.S. Open more than twice. DeChambeau won this tournament last year. His first victory in the event came in 2020. No player has won the U.S. Open back-to-back years since Brooks Kopeka did so in 2017 and 2018.
The prize pool for the 2025 U.S. Open has yet to be unveiled. Last year’s total winnings were $21.5 million, with DeChambeau taking home $4.3 million for his victory. The U.S. Open winner also earns an exemption into the event for the next 10 years. The victor also gets a five-year exemption into the other men’s majors.

Scottie Scheffler betting breakdown
Scottie Scheffler’s 2025 PGA Tour was delayed following a kitchen injury that resulted in surgery on his right hand. The 28-year-old played for the first time this season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in early January. Scheffler, who is the No. 1 ranked player in the world, has come on strong over his past few events. In his last four outings, he has three wins and a tie for fourth. Scheffler’s victories this year have been the CJ CUP Byron Nelson, the PGA Championship, and the recent Memorial Tournament presented by Workday.
Scheffler played in 19 PGA Tour events in 2024, making the cut for each event. He finished the year with seven wins and two second-place finishes. He finished the year with 16 top-10 finishes and over $29 million in prize money.
Scheffler ranks first in strokes gained (2.687), first in strokes gained off the tee (0.776), first in strokes gained: approach to green (1.342), and 25th in strokes gained: putting (0.359).
Scheffler has never won the U.S. Open. This year, he has the shortest betting odds to win the event since Tiger Woods was a +175 favorite in 2009. Woods did not win that year. Lucas Glover placed first.
Bryson DeChambeau betting breakdown
The winner of this event in 2020 and 2024, Bryson DeChambeau is among the betting favorites to win in 2025. If he does manage a third victory at the U.S. Open, DeChambeau will join Tiger Woods and Hale Irwin in that club. Willie Anderson, Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, and Jack Nicklaus are the four-time winners of the event.
DeChambeau has played a limited schedule in 2025, only competing in the Masters and PGA Championship. The 31-year-old has played well in those events, finishing tied for fifth in the Masters and tied for second in the PGA Championship.
Last year, DeChambeau played in four events, with his sole win coming in the U.S. Open. He also placed second in the PGA Championship and tied for sixth in the Masters.
DeChambeau is one of the best drivers on the tour, and his putting game is underrated. Those two factors make him worthy of consideration as a betting pick to win this weekend.
Xander Schauffele betting breakdown
Xander Schauffele is the No. 3 ranked player in the world heading into this week’s tournament. The 31-year-old has nine career PGA wins. His most recent victory came in July 2024 when he won The Open Championship. The victory was the second of the year for the American, who also won the PGA Championship in May of that year. Schauffele is looking for his first win of the 2025 PGA season. His best finish came at The Masters, where he tied for eighth. In his most recent outing, last week’s Memorial Tournament presented by Workday, he tied for 28th. He has not broken into the top 10 since his finish at The Masters.
Schauffele has been inconsistent this year, and he has never won the U.S. Open. However, his putting has been improving, and that could be a factor at Oakmont.
Schauffele ranks 62nd in strokes gained (0.337), and 127th in strokes gained off the tee (-0.115). He is seventh in strokes gained: approach to green (0.681), and 139th in strokes gained: putting (-0.215).
Best bet to win the 2025 U.S. Open
It’s hard to go against the best player in the world right now, and that’s Scottie Scheffler. However, if Scheffler’s short betting odds are not appealing, a betting pick of Bryson DeChambeau is not out of line.
The betting pick is for Scottie Scheffler to continue his hot streak this year and to win the 2025 U.S. Open.
