2022 RBC Heritage Preview

When previewing the 2022 RBC Heritage, one can’t help but notice how stacked the playing field is. We mean, it’s a who’s-who list of players participating — including the likes of Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, and Jordan Spieth. One could make the case this is the strongest field in the event’s history, which dates back to 1969. All in all, the field will consist of 138 golfers.

As usual, the Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina will play hosts to the RBC Heritage. Designed by Pete Dye, the course is littered with trees and features small greens and many doglegs. Therefore, the playing field doesn’t lend itself to players who can “bomb” it per se. Not only that but the greens at Harbour Town are the second-smallest on the whole PGA Tour, meaning accuracy is mission-critical.

The defending champion is Stewart Cink. Before him, there was a four-year streak of first-time winners on the PGA Tour taking the RBC Heritage. Though, that streak came at a time when many top players skipped out on the RBC Heritage, which is not the case this time around.

Best Bets To Win 2022 RBC Heritage

You probably know the deal with golf by now, you can’t just bet one golfer to win an event. No, you got to drop several different bets. The playing field is just too large to do otherwise. We’re dropping three bets to win the 2022 RBC Heritage. The players below attracted us most based on their current play and betting odds:

Collin Morikawa

Momentum is sky-high for Morikawa, who is the odds-on favorite to win this weekend at top golf betting sites. Morikawa shot a final-round 67 at the Masters, which placed him fifth overall at the major. Not only does he have recent momentum, but he fared quite well at the RBC Heritage a year ago too. In 2021, Morikawa finished tied for seventh at this event.

Morikawa’s Masters’ performance moved him into No. 2 in the world rankings. We sense that his short-hitting ability — which is amongst the best on the entire tour — will thrive at Harbour Town. His accuracy could catapult him to a victory during the weekend.

Corey Conners

Green-jacket winner Scottie Scheffler is the hottest player in the whole Tour right now. However, not far behind him is Corey Conners. A few weeks ago, Conners came strikingly close to winning the WGC Dell Match Play. Then at the Masters, Conner finished in a sixth-place tie. He was stable throughout Augusta, hitting 70-73-72-70 over the course of the major.

Like Morikawa, Harbour Town also suits Conners’ playing style to a tee (pun fully intended). He’s been top-notch in hitting greens in regulation, ranking first in his past 24 rounds in this star-studded field. Conners’ accuracy should thrive at the course’s small greens, hence why he draws a bet from us here.

Pete Dye Specialists

Like we said before, Harbour Town was designed by Pete Dye. Therefore, you might want to look in the direction of players who fancy themselves as “Dye specialists.” That includes the likes of Si Woo Kim, Matt Kuchar, Jim Furyk, Webb Simpson, amongst others. You’d be smart to throw a bet on at least one of these players.

If we had to pick only one, then it would be Simpson. Why? Because he had a record-setting performance here at the 2020 event, in which he won. That day, Simpson made five birdies in his final seven holes. He closed with a 7-under-par 64 to finish at a tournament scoring record 22-under-par 262. Given the caliber of players participating this year, Simpson might need a similar level of performance to repeat as champion, which we feel he’s more than capable of.
