The PGA Tour is in San Antonio, Texas, this week for the 2025 edition of the Valero Texas Open. The event features a prize pool of $9.5 million, with $1.71 million going to the winner. The runner-up takes home $1.035 million. In 2024, Akshay Bhatia and Denny McCarthy faced off in a playoff after both men finished at -20. Bhatia defeated McCarthy on the first playoff hole (No. 18) with a birdie. The win was Bhatia’s first victory in the Texas Open and the second PGA Tour win of his career. His first win came at the 2023 Barracuda Championship.
The Texas Open was first held in 1922. Valero picked up the naming rights for the event in 2022. The last player to win back-to-back at the Texas Open was Zach Johnson in 2008 and 2009. Arnold Palmer is the only player to win three years in a row (1960-62). Justin Leonard is the only other player with three Texas Open wins (2000, 2001, and 2007).
