Moira
Queen’s Plate winner Moira is looking to become the first filly to ever win both the Queen’s Plate and the E.P. Taylor Stakes. If Moira pulls off that feat it will be more impressive because Saturday marks the first time she has raced on turf.
Moira has looked great this year. She won the Queen’s Plate at Woodbine by seven-lengths. That victory came three weeks after she won the Woodbine Oaks by 10 3/4 lengths. In her other start of 2022, the filly took first at the Stella Artois Fury Stake.
Not only is Moira stepping onto a turf course for the first time, the E.P. Taylor Stakes marks her first race outside of her age group.
Fev Rover
The well-traveled Fev Rover has competed in five different countries on 10 different tracks during her three years of racing. The four-year-old is Irish-bred, trained by American Mark E. Casse and racing out of Canada in 2022. She has two races at Woodbine in 2022, placing second in the Dance Smartly Stakes in July and winning in August at the Canadian Stakes. Over the course of her career, the filly has gone 3-4-1 in 13 starts.
Fev Rover might not be getting as much attention as Moira ahead of Saturday’s race, but she is a horse to watch.
Mylady
The 2022 E.P. Stakes marks the first start outside Germany for this three-year-old filly. Mylady has seven career starts and a record of 3-1-1. Mylady has struggled in longer races, but all three of her wins have come at 1 1/4 miles. Her trainers think this is the ideal race length for her. Mylady has run on a variety of tracks, so the turf of Woodbine should not be an issue for her.
Our pick
There are a lot of unknowns heading into this race. That makes it interesting, but also difficult to pick. I think the best bet is the experienced Fev Rover, but Moira is not a bad bet either.
Pick: Fev Rover to win 2022 E.P. Stakes.
