The third race in the Canadian Triple Crown takes place on Sunday when nine three-year-olds take to the Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, for the 2022 edition of the Breeders’ Stakes. The race has a prize pool of $400,000.
Four of the horses competing in the 2022 Breeders’ Stakes also raced in the first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, the Queen’s Plate. Moira, a filly, won that race. Duke of Love won the Prince of Wales Stakes, the second leg of the Triple Crown.
The Breeders’ Stakes is the longest race in the Canadian Triple Crown at 1.5 miles. It is also the only one of the three competitions to be contested on a turf course.
The winner of the 2021 version of the Breeders’ Stakes was British Royalty. Patrick Husbands was the victorious jockey and Barbara J. Minshall trained the winning horse.

Dancin in Da’nile
Dancin in Da’Nile made an impression in his first race, winning his debut in 2021 at Woodbine. However, the Gail Cox-trained horse has not returned to the winner’s circle since that victory.
In three races at Woodbine in 2022, Dancin in Da’Nile has one third-place finish and two fifth-place finishes. He came in fifth at the Queen’s Plate Stakes.
Hall of Dreams
Hall of Dreams has had a good year so far. The Mark E. Casse-trained horse has six starts in 2022 and outside of a seventh-place finish in May, he has not finished lower than runner-up. Hall of Dreams has four second-place finishes on the year and one victory. He is coming off back-to-back runner-up placings in the Plate Trial Stakes and the Queens’ Plate Stakes.
One big note on Hall of Dreams is Sunday will be his first race on turf.
Sir for Sure
Like Hall of Dreams, Sir for Sure is trained by Mark E. Casse. Also like Hall of Dreams, Sir for Sure has never raced on turf. Sir for Sure has seven career starts and two wins. Both his wins have come during 2022. One of those triumphs came in the Plate Trial Stakes in July. Sir for Sure ran in the Prince of Wales Stakes but lost his rider in the first turn.
Sir for Sure has shown he excels at longer races.
Gaston
The winner of the Queen’s Plate, Moira, won’t compete in the Breeders’ Stakes. However, the horse’s team will be represented by Gaston. Gaston shares a trainer with Moira in Kevin Attard and the horse comes from the same ownership group.
Gaston brings a 1-2-0 record into the 2022 Breeders’ Stakes.
