The Breeders’ Cup 2021 bets Turf Sprint (G1) are for the shortest and fastest of the Breeders’ Cup races: five furlongs on the Del Mar grass. The $1 million horse race betting event is scheduled for Saturday, November 6, and features a competitive field of both domestic and international horses.
In 2020, Glass Slippers became the first overseas shipper to win the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. This year she will attempt to become the third horse to win it twice, after Mizdirection and Stormy Liberal. Free Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint Picks
Now that you know how to find the best places to play the race, let’s get to know the best horses in the 2021 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. Make sure to keep in mind that this race is five furlongs on a left-handed turf course, likely over firm turf. Different horses come in with different expertise, so make sure you are getting a price if you like a horse trying something new!
Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint Contenders
#4 Lieutenant Dan is the best bet in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. He is a real five-furlong turf horse without a lot of them, and he has the tactical speed to get the right forward trip. He should be fit off of a try down the hill at Santa Anita, and should be involved every step of the way over his best course and distance.
#3 Golden Pal will be favored after his win in the Woodford, where he just toyed with the field. These are tougher foes, but he has the talent to step up. He shapes as the speed of the speed in this, even on the cutback from five and a half furlongs to five, and if he improves off his last it will take a very good horse to catch him
#10 Gear Jockey started his career going longer but has been reinvented as a turf sprinter. He has never cut back to the flat five furlongs of this race, but he has the tactical versatility to carve out a good trip and his Gulfstream form suggests that this truly firm California turf might suit him as well as that extremely firm Florida grass did.
Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint International Contenders
#1 Glass Slippers won this last year and will attempt the repeat. The cut back to five furlongs is not a deal-breaker, but the rail post is tough. Also tough is the fact that there is less speed in this year’s edition than last year’s race.
The international contender likely to make more of an impact is her stablemate #2 Emaraaty Ana. He won the six-furlong Sprint Cup (G1) at Haydock last out, but effectively cuts back to five furlongs and should show more tactical speed than his stablemate. This means he is more likely to work a better trip, in a race where trip will matter a lot.
Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint Longshots
#12 Extravagant Kid ran second to Golden Pal in the Woodford last out, but he had a troubled trip and he was also making his first start after an international jaunt. He should be fitter second off the ship, and can work a clean trip from the outside. His last five-furlong try was a good third in the King’s Stand (G1), and that kind of class can hold well at a price here.
Especially for deeper exotic tickets, give #11 Fast Boat a long look. He shows up consistently, even going as short as this race. Though he probably will not win against horses of this quality, and he would benefit from having a little more speed in here, he is consistent enough to run on for one of his customary underneath shares, even in this spot.
