New York Yankees

Brian Cashman is running a baseball team the way I imagine a 12-year-old boy would… “We need more home runs!”

Despite Luis Severino’s return date still being a mystery and the starting pitching being a bit of a mess, the Yankees GM instead chose to acquire designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion, whose 21 home runs currently lead the American League.

With Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton both due back from injury this week, the Bronx Bombers should be able to bash their way to the postseason. However, they’ll need pitching help before the July 31st trade deadline in order to compete in October.

Minnesota Twins

Minnesota just keeps on mashing. On pace to break the team record for home runs in a season (267), the Twins’ slugging percentage (.515) is the highest of any team in history. With shortstop Jorge Polanco hitting an AL-leading .332, the club has flipped the script on the Indians to build up a 10-game lead in the AL Central.

If the Twins can land left-hander Madison Bumgarner from the Giants, as rumored, they’ll have the ace they need to go head-to-head with Justin Verlander and the Astros.

Atlanta Braves

Shortly after calling “the Braves to win the NL East” my MLB best bet, Atlanta rolled off eight-straight wins and are 12-3 in June.

Since moving young phenom Ronald Acuña Jr. back to the leadoff spot on May 10, they have tallied six runs per game while producing an NL-high 24 victories.

With rookie Austin Riley beginning to heat up again, and offseason acquisition Josh Donaldson homering in three straight games, it’s looking like the Braves might field baseball’s best offense.

If new free-agent-signing Dallas Keuchel can improve a starting rotation that has a mediocre 4.60 ERA during June’s surge, this team will be hard to beat.

Steve Starr

Steve is one of the many Americans who spends Sunday watching football on the couch and gorging on heart-clogging eats. He describes himself as a good father, great dog owner, and mediocre gambler and husband.
