The Houston Astros claimed their third American League Pennant at the end of the 221 Major League Baseball season. Houston had previously taken home the pennant in 2017 and 2019. However, the team was unable to win its second World Series title. The Astros fell to the Atlanta Braves in six games in the Fall Classic. The Astros claimed the 2021 pennant by downing the Boston Red Sox in a six-game series.
While the Astros are in the mix to repeat as American League Pennant winners in 2022, the team has a lot of competition from the New York Yankees, who have the best record in baseball at the 2022 MLB All-Star break.

New York Yankees
The New York Yankees have the best record and the best winning percentage in Major League Baseball at the 2022 MLB All-Star break. New York is 64-28, with a winning percentage of .696. The Yankees have scored the most runs in the majors with 497. They have allowed the fewest runs in the American League at 298. With that, the Yankees have the best-run differential in the majors at +199. That puts them +30 over the second-best Los Angeles Dodgers and +101 over the Houston Astros, who have the second-best run differential in the AL.
The Yankees have two of the AL leaders in home runs in Aaron Judge, who leads the majors with 33, and Giancarlo Stanton, who is third in the American League with 24 homers. As for pitching, Jameson Taillon is tied for second in AL wins with 10, while Nestor Cortes has the fifth best ERA in the American League at 2.63.
The Yankees were 5-5 after the first ten games of the season. They put that .500 start behind them and never looked back.
Houston Astros
The reigning American League champs were second to the Los Angeles Angels in the West in the early days of the 2022 MLB season, but the Astros found their groove, and they now hold a nine-game lead over the Seattle Mariners, who are now in second place in the AL West.
Houston is in the middle of the pack in the AL as far as runs scored with 403, but outside the Yankees, the Astros have allowed the fewest runs against in the AL at 305. Overall, the team has a run differential of +98.
The Astros have a Cy Young candidate in Justin Verlander, leading the team in pitching. Verlander leads the AL in wins (12), and he is second in the American League in ERA at 1.89.
Houston has solid batting. Yordan Alvarez is second in the AL In home runs with 26, and Kyle Tucker is third in RBIs with 62. Alvarez is fifth in runs batted in at 60.
Toronto Blue Jays
The Toronto Blue Jays were the early favorites to win the American League pennant in 2022, but that seems like it might have been wishful thinking. Thirty games into the 2022 season, the Blue Jays were 17-13 and in third place in the AL East. With 93 games played, the club has slipped to fourth, falling behind the suddenly red hot Baltimore Orioles. Toronto is 50-43. If they have any hope of competing for the AL pennant or making the playoffs, they need to make improvements after the All-Star break.
Our pick
The Yankees are our pick to win the American League Pennant in 2022. The team’s bats are doing their job, and the pitching rotation is strong as well.
