  • The 2021 MLB All-Star Game is set for Tuesday night at 7pm ET from Coors Field in Denver, Colorado
  • Shohei Ohtani is set to become the first player in baseball history to hit and pitch in the All-Star Game

The 91st Midsummer Classic between the American and National League will feature 40 players making their first-ever appearance in an MLB All-Star Game, including Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Shohei Ohtani, who are putting together MVP-worthy campaigns through the first half of the season.

While the American League has dominated the annual showcase in recent years, the National League are slight favorites to win the game. Let’s check the latest odds for the event, and as always, be sure to refer to our MLB 2021 betting guide for further wagering tips and advice.

All eyes on Ohtani

With last year’s All-Star Game being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event will be the first since 2019, when the AL defeated the NL 4-3 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.

Shohei Ohtani was both voted in as a DH and selected by the players as a pitcher. Leading the majors with 33 homers and sporting a 3.49 ERA on the mound, the Japanese superstar gets to join forces with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on the American League squad. One of three Blue Jays in the starting lineup, the 22-year-old masher is pacing the majors with a 1.089 OPS and 73 RBIs while hitting .332/.430/.658 with 28 dingers.

So, if the American League has Ohtani and Guerrero Jr. and has won the past seven ASGs, why is the National League a slight -108 favorite? Well, the NL does have the always-electric Fernando Tatis Jr. and three of the five ERA leaders among starting pitchers, with Kevin Gausman, Brandon Woodruff and Trevor Rogers.

Sadly, however, fans won’t get to see NL Cy Young frontrunner Jacob deGrom, who’s skipping the event to give himself an extended break after putting together a historic first half of the year. The National League will also be without Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr., who will miss the rest of the season after tearing his right ACL on Saturday night.

All-Star Game Picks

Given that the National League will be missing both Acuna Jr. and deGrom, we like the American League (-102) to keep their streak rolling with their eighth-consecutive All-Star-Game victory.

The Midsummer Classic curiously has an over-under of 10.5 runs – however, that UNDER would have hit in 13 of the last 14 All-Star Games with only the 2018 event in Washington going OVER. (8-6 AL win). While this year’s game is being held in the mile-high altitude of Coors Field, the most hitter-friendly park in the Majors, we’ll ride with recent history and go with the UNDER.
