  • Time: 8:00 p.m. ET

This year marks the 92nd edition of Major League Baseball‘s mid-summer classic. The 2022 MLB All-Star game takes place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The game will be broadcast by FOX. The first pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Dodger Stadium also hosted the 1980 version of the All-Star Game.

As usual, the game features the best players from the American League vs. the best of the National League. The starters for the All-Star Game were picked via fan voting. The teams will be managed by the managers who won their respective pennants the previous year. In 2022, Dusty Baker of the Houston Astros manages the American League, while the National League club will be led by Brian Snitker from the Atlanta Braves.

National League breakdown

The first thing that needs to be noted about the 2022 MLB All-star Game is that the National League has not won since they shut out the American League in 2012. The games since then have been close, with the NL losing by no more than three runs. However, the National League club has failed to get the win for a long while.

The NL has solid pitching in Sandy Alcantara (1.76 ERA), Corbin Burnes (2.14 ERA), Tony Gonsolin (2.02 ERA), and Joe Musgrove (2.42 ERA), and Clayton Kershaw (2.13 ERA). Expect the pitchers from the Dodgers (Gonsolin and Kershaw) to get time to showcase themselves in front of the home crowd.

As for hitting, the National League has some potent bats to put in its lineup. Peter Alonso, Juan Soto, and Kyle Schwarber are all on the NL roster. Each will participate in the Home Run Derby the day before the All-Star Game.

American League breakdown

In addition to winning the past eight versions of the MLB All-Star Game, the American League has the all-time lead in wins (46-43). The AL has also scored more runs than the National League in the history of the game (378-372). The AL won last year’s All-Star game, which took place at Coors Field, by the score of 5-2.

The AL has great options on the mound in Shane McClanahan (1.71 ERA), Justin Verlander (1.89 ERA), Alex Manoah (2.28 ERA), and Nestor Cortes (2.63 ERA). Also, Shohei Ohtani has once again been selected as a pitcher and designated hitter.

The hitting talent on the American League club is deep. The AL will put Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Jose Altuve, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Ohtani, and Mike Trout in the batter’s box.

Our pick

The American League has history on its side. It also has one of the hottest hitters in baseball to throw into the lineup in Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers. In his last 30 games, Devers is hitting .286 with 10 home runs and 24 RBIs. Those numbers put him head of his AL teammate Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees. Judge is hitting .225 in his last 30 games with nine homers and 22 RBIs.

Pick: American League to win the 2022 MLB All-Star Game.
