Dodgers Signed Edwin Diaz in a Move That Will Raise Their World Series Odds

The Dodgers of Los Angeles keep making decisions that have people all over the world overcome with envy. Los Angeles won the World Series earlier this fall and now the front office is busy at the winter meeting trying to build the roster for a three-pet run. On Tuesday, breaking news came in, as the Dodgers signed Edwin Diaz in a move that will raise their World Series odds.

This is major news for the reigning champs, as Diaz is one of the best closers in Major League Baseball. He has been fun to watch for the New York Mets, but he was a free agent and the NL East side wasn’t able to keep him in the fold. Now, though, he’s off to LA and expectations are going to be off the charts for him. Obviously, this move has a lot of people talking.

“Diaz, a three-time All-Star, logged a 1.63 ERA and converted 28 of 31 save chances for the Mets last season,” ESPN said of the new Dodger. “With an elite combination of a high-velocity fastball and vicious slider, Diaz, 31, has posted high strikeout rates throughout his career. In 2025, Diaz struck out 98 in 66⅓ innings while walking just 14 batters.”

Edwin Diaz signing with the Dodgers changes things for Los Angeles

The Dodgers were already considered the favorites to win it all next season, but adding Diaz is only going to give them more confidence ahead of the new year. Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani are the main stars for the team. Clayton Kershaw is retiring, which is hard for people to think about – he’s a club legend for the Dodgers.

While Diaz isn’t a starter, he’s going to step in and be a massive key to things for the bullpen. Next year, you’ve got to figure that the Phillies, Yankees, Mariners, Astros, Blue Jays and others are going to push to go on a deep run and spoil the party for the Dodgers. They’re indeed looking to make some history by winning a third title in a row.

According to the best sports betting sites, LA holds +300 odds to win it all again next year. Per the top MLB betting sites, they’re also overwhelming favorites to win the NL pennant. That’s of course not going to be easy for them, but bringing in someone of Diaz’s caliber is only going to make that difficult test a little easier and raise the World Series betting odds.

Signing Diaz is amazing news for the Dodgers, but bad news for the rest of the bigs. It will be interesting to see how things go for him with LA next season, but there’s plenty of confidence that he’ll be able to keep pitching at an incredibly high level for this team.
