Mets Should Take Care of Business vs. the Rockies in a Saturday Showdown

• New York Mets vs. Colorado Rockies
• Saturday, May 27 at 9PM ET
• Coors Field in Denver, Colorado

How will the 2023 season end for the New York Mets this season? This is something fans can’t wait to find out, as there’s loads of potential for the NL East side. The Mets haven’t been back to the World Series in a while, but people are hopeful they can stun a lot of folks this campaign. In order for the Mets to keep impressing, they’re going to need to take care of business in easier matchups. With that said, the Mets should take care of business vs. the Rockies in a Saturday showdown.

What’s really going to help the Mets here is that ace hurler Justin Verlander is going to be on the bump for this one. When healthy, Verlander is without question one of the best pitchers in the game. From the moment he made the move from Houston to Queens, people have been thrilled. Verlander is in the middle of a strong year too, as he has posted a 2-2 record and a 3.60 ERA thus far.

The Rockies also aren’t too strong of a club, as they’re currently eight games under .500. It’s been another disappointing season already for Colorado, as they aren’t expected to push for the NL West crown. As for the Mets, they’re 25-25 right now and hoping to go on a hot streak in the near future. New York needs to get hot soon – which is why this series vs. Colorado is so important for them.

According to the best-rated sportsbooks, which includes the reliable Bovada review, the Mets hold -115 MLB betting odds to record a win on Saturday. The Rockies, despite being the home team, are underdogs with +125 odds. Colorado is yet to announce who will start for them, but we don’t think that’s going to matter here. With Verlander pitching for the Mets, they should be able to take care of business. We’re going with New York as our pick.

The under should hit in the Mets vs. Rockies game

Looking at how things could go on offense, the under should hit in the Mets vs. Rockies game. Our reasoning is pretty simple here, as Verlander should put on a show going up against the Colorado hitters. Outside of Kris Bryant, the Rockies don’t feature any sluggers that have opposing pitchers too nervous about facing. With that said, Verlander is a stud on the mound and he’s always ready to silence a lineup.

While the Mets have a ton of talent, some of the bats haven’t been performing the way people would have hoped. Big names like Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor always have the potential to have a big game, but the rough news for the Mets this spring has been a lack of consistency from the unit overall. They’ll have a solid chance to put up big numbers against the Rockies, but at this point we don’t know what kind of show we’ll get from New York.

Again, the Rockies are yet to announce who their starter will be, but with the Mets struggling a bit at the plate in recent weeks, whoever Colorado sends out could end up having a strong showing too. We’re quite confident in Verlander to be fantastic too. Only time will tell if the NY and Colorado hitters will be able to turn heads, but things are pretty much up in the air for that right now.

Per the oddsmakers, the over/under has been set at 6.5 runs. Normally we’d think the Mets would be able to top this on their own, but we don’t have a lot of confidence in them. With Verlander pitching as well, we expect this contest to be a low-scoring affair. From our chair, we don’t think a ton of runs are going to be scored at Coors Field. Because of this, we’re going with the under as our pick and taking the -110 MLB betting odds.

Mets are hoping to push for the NL East title

With all of that in mind, remember that the Mets are hoping to push for the NL East title. Right now, the Atlanta Braves are major favorites to win the division title, as Atlanta is in the middle of a brilliant campaign. It’s not going to be easy for the Mets to catch  up to them, but you never know what could happen late in the season.

Last year, the Yankees were sensational during the first half of the season. However, after the All-Star break, they looked rough and suffered an early exit in the postseason. If this were to happen with the Braves, then it would open the door for the Mets to win the NL East.

Regardless of if they win the division or not, we fully expect the Mets to reach the playoffs via an NL Wild Card spot. If they do make the playoffs, Verlander, Alonso, Lindor and others will be ready to make a huge splash. The Mets will surely be a team to watch for the rest of the season.
