When the second half of the season starts we already know which teams are in the battle, which are building for the next season and which are simply hopeless. The Wildcard battle is a fun race from July, August and until September.
The American League has several teams in the race, but perhaps only five of them can actually hope to get the last tickets. Los Angeles and Toronto seemed to have the best rosters of the teams fighting for these spots, but you can’t count out the new project of the Seattle Mariners or even what the Kansas City Royals are trying to do.
“All of our success in this organization is tied together,” Kansas City Royals general manager Dayton Moore said. “We’ve fought through some challenging times in the past. We’ll do it again. Together.
“We’re certainly not playing our best baseball. We haven’t played very good, truthfully, since July.”
Los Angeles is +125 to win a spot in the Wildcard, same goes for Toronto; however, Seattle looks like a good bet with +175 odds.
Kansas City is a long shot at +375, but if they managed to get things back in order, they might have a fair shot.
“It’s been frustrating,” Moore added. “But I look at myself. I’m accountable for this. I look at what I can do. I’m not blaming anybody else. I’ve got to look internally at myself and what I can do, how I can contribute.”
