Oakland Atheltics (+155) at Los Angeles Dodgers (-170)
After three straight losses, nothing seems like a better recipe to get back to the winning path than to have the best pitcher on the team, Clayton Kershaw (8-6, 2.51 ERA), try and continue his red-hot pace as the Los Angeles Dodgers (56-45, 33-18 Home) host the Oakland Aβs (45-56, 24-27 Away) tonight, at Dodger Stadium (10:10 PM Eastern).
The Dodgers havenβt lost more than three games in a row this season, thanks to a rotation that trots out Kershaw and Zack Greinke. Coming into tonight though, the Dodgers dropped two against the New York Mets, and the first of the series against the Aβs after Oaklandβs Sonny Gray earned his 11th win of the season shutting down LAβs lineup with a 2-0 win.
“He’s one of the best pitchers in the league,” Dodgers Howie Kendrick said to the Associated Press. “He just threw a lot of strikes and got outs when he needed them. We hit some balls hard, but right at guys.”
Kershaw has gone 29 innings without allowing a run, recording three straight wins, and reaching double-digit Ks in all those outings. His last time out he pitched a complete game shutout and recorded 11 strikeouts against the Mets. While his last three starts were against some weaker batting lineups, facing the aforementioned Mets, the Washington Nationals and the Philadelphia Phillies; Kershaw still looked flat-out dominant in those wins.
“That’s what aces do. When he’s like that, they’ve got no chance,” teammate Jimmy Rollins told MLB’s official website.
Across the dugout will be Jess Chavez (5-10, 3.45 ERA), a right-hander pitcher that has lost four of his last five starts, including a 9-3 defeat against the San Francisco Giants, where he allowed eight hits and four runs in just 3.0 innings.
Thereβs no room for an upset here. Bet the Dodgers to win and expect Kershaw to continue mowing down batters like the three-time Cy Young winner he is.
Pick: Dodgers (-170).
