Perhaps the best game of the Monday lineup in Major League Baseball features the Baltimore Orioles taking on the Los Angeles Angels, at 10:05 PM ET at the Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
Baltimore is 53-44 this season with a 27-21 away record, but they lost two of the last three games against A’s before taking this series against the Angels. Bud Norris will be their pitcher tonight with a 7-6 record and 3.96 ERA.
“We’re all ready to get back into a routine for the rest of the season,” Orioles manager Buck Showalter said after Sunday’s rout. “It’s a matter of sticking around and seeing if we can get a chance to roll the dice in September and October.”
The Los Angeles Angels are 59-38, second in the American League West Division, behind the Oakland A’s. Their starting pitcher will be Matt Shoemaker who is 7-2 this season with a 4.38 ERA.
“As much as you do side work and (simulated) games, there’s no substitute for the adrenaline and the challenge of facing major league hitters,” Showalter said. “It will get better. We’ve seen what he’s capable of.”
“I’m here to do whatever I need to do,” Shoemaker told MLB’s official website. “Whatever helps us win the World Series.”
The Orioles are +123 to win at the Angel Stadium of Anaheim and the Angels the favorites at -115 in the money line; Los Angeles has the best home record in the Majors.
