MLB Preview – Boston Red Sox at NY Yankees

The Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees are in another head to head series to establish who’s the best of the American League East division.  The pitchers set to start the series this Friday at 7:05 PM ET at Yankee Stadium are Clay Buchholz and CC Sabathia.

Boston has won six of the last 10 and four of the last five before game Wednesday. Clay Buchholz has been amazing this season posting a 7-0 record with 73 strikeouts and a 1.73 ERA.

“He continues to improve,” said manager John Farrell. “Right now we have every intention of him starting Friday in New York.”

During his career Buchholz has made 16 starts on six or more days of rest, and he’s pitched to a 4.67 ERA in those 16 games.

“That’s what’s hard about it. I want to be out there every day,” Buchholz  said. “I think I would be doing the team an injustice if I’m not 100 percent like I have been all year. That was the tough part, on my half side of it. But fortunately enough, we’ve got a couple of guys that can fill in for that one start, so it’s not going to hurt anybody.”

Sabathia has been disappointing with a 4-4 season and a 3.96 ERA. He lost his last start against Tampa Bay last Sunday.

“I’m hurting the team,” Sabathia said. “I’m not helping the team out, I just need to get better.”

“It’s just everything,” he continued. “Not being able to make pitches with two strikes, fastball command, location. I just need to work and make certain I can get better and try to help the team.”

Boston and New York met in the first three games of the season with two wins for the Red Sox.
