2021 MLB Futures: National League Division Picks

  • BetOnline has updated odds to win all three National League divisions
  • The Mets (-300) have emerged as clear favorites in the NL East while the NL Central has four clubs competing for the division crown
  • San Francisco (+500) leads the NL West standings but oddsmakers still expect the Dodgers (-240) to reel in the Giants by season’s end

In the spring, no one could have predicted that the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers would be behind the rebuilding Giants in the standings come summer time.

As we near the halfway point of the Major League Baseball season, San Francisco’s success is the most surprising development in the National League but it certainly isn’t the only one.

Let’s look at the latest odds to win all three NL divisions, and as always, be sure to refer to our MLB 2021 betting guide for further wagering tips and advice.

Odds to win NL East

New York Mets-300
Atlanta Braves+525
Philadelphia Phillies+675
Washington Nationals+1600
Miami Marlins+5000

Meet the Mets

With Jacob deGrom’s shoulder MRI coming up clean, wheels remain up for the Mets (-300), who are now massive favorites to win the NL East. New York has top end starters in deGrom and Marcus Stroman, along with the eighth-ranked bullpen in the majors, and offseason acquisition Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso are finally starting to swing the bats well.

The Atlanta Braves (+525) are a handful of games back and haven’t been able to get any kind of momentum going all year because of their brutal bullpen, which is 9-17 with a 4.82 ERA. And while Philadelphia (+675) has been respectable this season, it’s hard to see them catching the Mets.

Odds to win NL Central

Milwaukee Brewers+105
Chicago Cubs+225
St. Louis Cardinals+450
Cincinnati Reds+650
Pittsburgh Pirates+100000

Log-jammed division

The NL Central is easily the tightest division in all of the majors with the Brewers (+105), Cubs (+225), Cardinals (+450) and Reds (+650) all within a couple of games of each other. Christian Yelich is nowhere near his 2018 MVP form but is finding his groove, helping Milwaukee’s offense average 5.6 runs per game in June.

Starting pitching will make them a dangerous club come October, however, the Brew Crew might be too inconsistent to win the division. In a season where they’re already gone on a 4-13 losing streak and a 17-4 tear, they’re again mired in a cold stretch. Instead, think about taking a longshot bet on the Reds (+650). Cincinnati has been heating up lately and Luis Castillo can only get better.

Odds to win NL West

Los Angeles Dodgers-240
San Diego Padres+310
San Francisco Giants+500
Colorado Rockies+150000
Arizona Diamondbacks+200000

Giants still ahead of Dodgers

The defending champion Dodgers (-240) continue to be plagued by injuries, losing Corey Seager, Max Muncy and Cody Bellinger in recent weeks. Los Angeles will once again be a powerhouse if they can ever get healthy, but the criminally-underrated Giants (+500) aren’t too shabby themselves. In what was supposed to be a rebuilding year, San Francisco just keeps on racking up wins.

Oddsmakers give San Diego (+310) a better chance of claiming the NL West thanks to the always-entertaining Fernando Tatis Jr., however, the Padres will be hard-pressed to keep up in the division if Manny Machado, Eric Hosmer and Wil Myers continue to perform below expectations.
