The race for the American League East title has not been decided. The New York Yankees have a 5.5 game lead over the second-place Tampa Bay Rays. Meanwhile, the Toronto Blue Jays are right behind the Rays in the AL East standings, six games behind the Yankees. Tampa Bay and Toronto are currently in the midst of a five-game series, which takes place at Rogers Centre in Toronto.
The teams split the first two games of that series with Tampa Bay winning 3-2 on Monday and Toronto winning 4-2 in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday.
With the expansion of the playoffs this season, the Rays and Blue Jays are in the mix for the AL Wild Card, but the Baltimore Orioles or perhaps the Chicago White Sox could still take those postseason spots from them. In short, every game that remains in the 2022 MLB season is important.

Toronto has Ross Stripling as its starting pitcher. The 32-year-old is coming off a 4-3 win over the Texas Rangers on Friday. Stripling threw six innings and gave up three hits for two earned runs, including one home run. The right-hander had four strikeouts. Stripling is in his third year with the Blue Jays. He has started 20 games this season. He has a record of 7-4 with an ERA of 3.03 and 98 strikeouts on 113 innings pitched.
The Rays have the pitching advantage in Wednesday’s game.
Rays vs. Blue Jays hitting
The Rays are not a high-scoring team. They are in the middle of the pack when it comes to runs scored this year at 592, which gives them 66 fewer runs than the Blue Jays on the season. Yandy Diaz leads the team with an average of .296. Randy Arozarena leads Tampa Bay with 19 home runs, 78 RBI’s and 138 hits.
Toronto’s hitting is better and more balanced than Tampa’s. Alejandro Kirk has the best average on the team at .293. The home run leader for Toronto is Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with 27. Meanwhile, Bo Bichette leads the team in hits with 161 and RBI’s with 87.
The Blue Jays have the hitting advantage.
Rays vs. Blue Jays
This game will probably come down to the pitching and with the Rays having the advantage in that situation. I’m going with Tampa Bay in this game.
