The Yankees Want Rivera Back

The New York Yankees don’t want closer Mariano Rivera reconsider his retirement, despite the fact that they are 8 game behind the Boston Red Sox in the American League East division.

The Yankees Want Rivera BackThe Yankees can still get it in the playoffs via the wild card, but they think their project could be better next year that’s why they want Mariano one more year.

“I don’t see any reason why he couldn’t do it next year, I don’t,” Girardi said about Rivera stepping away from retirement. “He’s made it pretty clear that he doesn’t want to [return], but I always say, you know, January rolls around and sometimes you have a different feel about what you want to do.”

“I’m sure I’ll talk to him at some point in the offseason,” Girardi said, “and … I’ll tell him when the season’s over, ‘Take a month. Take a month and a half, two months, and make sure this is really what you want to do. Because once you do go, it’s hard to come back.'”

Rivera is 43 years old and is one game away from recording his 9th season with at lets 40 saves.

β€œI’ve been blessed,” Rivera said recently. β€œIt’s humbling to me. I don’t deserve it. It’s a blessing from the Lord. I’m learning. I’m getting more than what I’m giving. I am hearing from people who have troubles. So many families and people have been blessing me with their histories.”

The Yankees opened 30/1 to win the World Series and 15/1 to win the American League.Β  If that is going to happen, which, by the way, seems unlikely, they could use Mariano Rivera at the top of his skills.
