With that said, the Yankees are hoping to upset the Twins in a key midweek showdown. Will they get the job done?
Right now, there are no excuses for the Yankees, as fans are growing quite frustrated with their lack of consistency at the plate. This lineup is simply too loaded for them to not be able to put up plenty of runs up on the board. We’ve seen Aaron Judge keep on going strong with his slugger power, hitting home runs left and right. However, the rest of the lineup has been a major letdown thus far.

Star prospect Anthony Volpe made the Major League roster and he has become the new starting shortstop for the squad. However, he’s hitting well under .200 on the year, which no one was expecting. Volpe needs to really step things up at the plate. No one can argue that he’s great on defense, but he has struggled way too much with the bat in his hands. This is something that must change as soon as possible.

The over should hit in the Yankees vs. Twins matchup
Despite both teams battling issues putting up runs, we do think the over should hit in the Yankees vs. Twins matchup. That’s because Domingo German is set to take the bump for the Yankees, while Kenta Maeda is getting the start for Minnesota. Both of these guys have struggled on the year as well, which has been disappointing to see. Starting with German, he just can’t seem to get into a groove.
On the year, the hard-throwing righty is 1-2, with a rough 4.50 ERA. As for Maeda, he’s been worse, going 0-3 on the year. Maeda also has an ERA north of 4.00. Both of these guys are usually quite reliable when on the bump for their teams, but that hasn’t been the case in 2023. Judge is going to hope to have a huge day at Target Field and take advantage of someone like Maeda going up against him. Judge knows the offense as a whole needs to step up too.

“We tried getting a little rally there going late,” Judge said following Monday’s loss to Minnesota via the New York Daily News. “But we couldn’t really get it firing. We got to try to just jump out early on teams, score early and kind of put the pressure on them. Right now, we’re kind of taking a while getting into the game, feeling it, and just not doing the job. So we gotta jump on them early.”
Per the oddsmakers, the over/under for this game has been set at seven runs. With German and Maeda both entering this one with ERAs above 4.00, it has people believing that plenty of runs are going to be scored in this contest. Matter of fact, it would be a bit of a surprise if both teams didn’t flirt with 10 runs. The two starters have struggled and that will continue in this one. We’re going with the over.
