Best Bet – Toronto Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles
The surging Toronto Blue Jays travel to Baltimore for a four-game series against their lowly AL East rivals, the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles took one of three in Toronto at the end of August/the start of September. However, since losing the middle game of the series, everything is clicking for the Blue Jays.

The Orioles are likely to face a gauntlet of starting pitching in the first three games. Robbie Ray is the best pitcher in the AL in the last month. Ryu is 3-1 against the Orioles this season, with a 3.33 ERA and 20 strikeouts, while Steven Matz has an ERA of 1.63 and only one home run given up in his last seven starts. Oh, and the Jays’ offence is clicking. Expect the Jays to take at least three of four.
Boston Red Sox vs. Chicago White Sox
One of the biggest series of the weekend features two AL playoffs teams looking to move up the standings with only three weeks left. Chicago – while pretty locked into the AL Central crown – is still chasing the Houston Astros for the second seed in the American League. The Red Sox – with teams nipping at their heels needs more wins to guarantee a spot in the playoffs.
We are leaning on the Red Sox to take the rubber match in the series as they will send Chris Sale to the mound in that game. The White Sox pitching has been hampered by injuries to starting pitching the last week. Lucas Giolito and Lance Lynn are out for the series.
The White Sox should send Carlos Rondon to the mound on Friday but the other two games are question marks. Something you do not want against a team averaging almost six runs per game in September.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres
If your team is out of the mix and you are looking for baseball to entertain you this weekend, it is hard to top the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres series. The Padres are up 7-6 in the season series, with both teams scoring 51 runs in the 13 games.
However, the last time these two played, the Dodgers swept the Padres. And they expect to send the same three pitchers to the mound for their weekend series against the Padres. The Dodgers allowed five runs in the three games – with the starters Julio Urias, Walker Buehler, Max Scherzer – giving up zero earned runs and only ten baserunners in 19.1 innings.
The Padres should hit better this weekend but I trust the Dodgers pitching over the Padres’ bats. Take the Dodgers to win the series.
Oakland Athletics vs. Texas Rangers
Where we see an upset this weekend is with the Texas Rangers beating the Oakland Athletics. While no one will argue the Rangers are a good team this season, they slightly overachieved against some quality opponents this season. They are 8-6 against the Red Sox and Rays this season. They are also 7-9 against Oakland and took two out of three in the Bay Area at the end of June.

The Rangers are also playing better lately, going 7-3 in their last ten games. The Rangers should get a start from Taylor Hearn this series – who has an 18-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his last four starts and a WHIP of 1.056. The A’s are coming off one of the most gruelling stretches of any team this season. Of their last 22 games, 19 games were against teams currently with a winning record.
Seattle Mariners vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
The Seattle Mariners remain in the hunt for a Wild Card spot, thanks to a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks earlier this month. Now, they play host to the National League bottom dweller, with a chance to gain more ground in the race.
The Diamondbacks are putrid on the road this season, sitting at 17-52 and an even worse 1-13 in interleague games. Against teams currently at .500 or better, they are 10-35 on the road. Betting on a team winning 22.2% of games against winning teams is a waste of money. Take Seattle to win the series.
