2021 National League Pennant Futures With MLB in Home Stretch

  • BetOnline and Bovada have updated odds to win the National League Pennant
  • The Dodgers (+170), Giants (+325) and Brewers (+360) have the best shot at reaching the World Series
  • Cincinnati (+1400) has surged while San Diego (+2000) has hit the skids over the past month

Despite holding down the best record in baseball from wire-to-wire of the 2021 MLB season, San Francisco isn’t expected to prevent their NL West rivals in Los Angeles from playing in the World Series for the fifth time in the past six years.

The Dodgers remain the +170 favorites to win the NL Pennant with the season entering the stretch run while the Giants’ odds are down to +325. Let’s check the odds on the other National League clubs set to face off this October. You can also refer to our MLB 2021 betting guide for further baseball betting tips and advice.

Padres in a tail spin

So long, San Diego (+2000). Sitting only behind the Dodgers as a +450 favorite to make the World Series a month ago when we last checked in, the Padres have been in a tail spin since Los Angeles stole Max Scherzer from their clutches at the trade deadline. After being swept at home by LA last week, San Diego dropped to 2-12 in their past 14 games and now trail Cincinnati (+1400) for the final NL Wild Card spot.

With a dangerous lineup led by Joey Votto and Sonny Gray starting to find his groove (throwing 13 straight scoreless innings), the Reds won’t be an easy out for the Dodgers (+170) or Giants (+325) in a one-game elimination playoff game.

Braves and Brewers locked in playoff spots

Credit to the Braves (+700) for not folding up shop when NL MVP candidate Ronald Acuña Jr. went down for the year. Atlanta’s recent nine-game winning streak put them in total control of the NL East and their ace Max Fried is heating up at the right time (4-0, 0.67 ERA in August). After wasting a 3–1 series lead to the Dodgers in last year’s NLCS, Brian Snitker’s club may get a rematch this October.

Freddy Peralta is apparently looking good in bullpen sessions and that would bode well for the Brewers’ (+360) playoff chances as they’ll need Peralta, Brandon Woodruff and Corbin Burnes to be at full strength in order to upset the Dodgers or Giants in the postseason.

Here’s how Votto described Milwaukee’s staff before a recent series:

“I’m going to say it out loud: Personally, I think this is the best group of pitchers I’ve faced in my career,” he said. “I was a part of the team that faced the 2010 Phillies with the late Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels. On the whole, the entire collection of (Brewers) pitchers, this has been the toughest matchup I’ve ever come across in my career.

“Their bullpen is outstanding. Their starting pitching is dominant. This is a fantastic team.”
