Dodgers still the favorites

Despite not even leading their own division, the Dodgers (+360) remain the chalk pick to win another World Series. Los Angeles has been beat up all year and is now missing Clayton Kershaw and Corey Seager. Former MVP Cody Bellinger also doesn’t look like himself after returning from a hamstring injury. The good news is even with these injuries, LA has the best run differential in all of baseball.

Sitting No. 2 in run differential, the Astros (+600) lead the AL in average, on-base percentage, OPS and runs thanks to the rebirths of José Altuve, Yuli Gurriel and 2019 Rookie of the Year Yordan Álvarez. With Alex Bregman likely back soon, expect Houston to add a starting pitcher at the deadline to solidify their contender status.

The White Sox (+800) have the AL Central on lockdown, but according to MLB.com, they’ve won 26 of 31 games against the four teams with the worst records in the AL (the Orioles, Rangers, Royals and Twins) and are under-.500 (28-30) against everyone else. On the bright side, their dynamic duo of Lance Lynn and Carlos Rodón (#2 and #3 on the AL Cy Young ballot at midseason) should give Chicago an edge over almost anyone come October.

Fan favorite Fernando Tatis Jr. may be inflating the Padres’ odds (+900). With all the injuries to their pitching staff (Blake Snell, Yu Darvish, Dinelson Lamet, Drew Pomeranz) and the surprising Giants holding down first place in the NL West , San Diego seems destined for a one-game wild-card playoff on the road.

Longshot World Series bets

With the deep pockets of billionaire owner Steve Cohen, the Mets (+1000) can absolutely be expected to be players at the trade deadline.

Rumors have linked the club to the Cubs’ former MVP Kris Bryant and Twins starter Jose Berrios. The rotation is already loaded with National League MVP contender Jacob deGrom, Taijuan Walker and Marcus Stroman, and there’s a chance both Carlos Carrasco and Noah Syndergaard could be back for the postseason.

The Brewers (+1400) are dead-last in the NL with a .220 batting average. Not exactly championship quality. However, if they can somehow add some hitting at the deadline (Joey Gallo or Trevor Story perhaps?), their lights-out pitching rotation (Brandon Woodruff, Corbin Burnes, Freddy Peralta) and bullpen is built for October baseball.
