Marquez vs. Bezzecchi: Everything to Know for the 2026 MotoGP USA Grand Prix

  • What: 2026 MotoGP USA Grand Prix
  • When: March 29th, 2026
  • Where: Austin, Texas
  • Circuit: Circuit of the Americas

MotoGP heads to Austin, Texas, this weekend for round three of the 2026 season. Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi arrives as the hottest rider on the grid, winning the last four straight grand prix races since LAST October! The Italian leads the championship by 11 points over teammate Jorge Martin.

Martin scored a career-best Aprilia result in Brazil last weekend, finishing second. The Aprilia duo has seized early control of the title fight. That said, reigning champion Marc Marquez cannot be counted out here. He has seven career wins at COTA and holds the circuit’s lap record. The left-heavy layout perfectly suits his aggressive riding style.

Rounding out the contenders, we have KTM’s Pedro Acosta, who opened the season with a sprint win in Thailand. However, he has since slipped to third in the standings. Marquez Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia won last year’s race after Marquez crashed. Now, let’s discuss some dark horses.

Fabio Di Giannantonio on the VR46 Ducati is the top independent Ducati rider in the standings. Alex Marquez is always in the hunt as well, coming off a 6th-place finish in Brazil.

Marc Marquez

Marquez comes into this race as the favorite despite not reaching a podium on a Sunday this season. His Sprint pace has been strong, with wins in Brazil and a second-place finish in Thailand. After the Brazil Sprint victory last week, Marquez is just 22 points off the lead.

There’s growing speculation that Marquez still isn’t 100% healthy and comfortable. The lingering effects from his 2025 shoulder surgery may still be a factor. COTA isa litmus test for Marquez’s title hopes.

Every Marquez championship season has included a win in the first three rounds. If Bezzecchi beats him here, the narrative around 2026 shifts dramatically. As impressive as Marquez has been, I disagree with the oddsmakers and would pass on him at this price.

Marco Bezzecchi

Bezzecchi has dominated the racing grid. He has led every Sunday racing lap since October’s Portimao round. That is 101 straight laps at the front of the field. His dominance in Brazil was particularly impressive given a rough start to the weekend. He was 20th on Friday before storming to second in qualifying on Saturday. On Sunday, Bezzecchi led from the first corner and won by over three seconds.

COTA has not traditionally been his strongest venue. He finished just sixth here last season when Ducati swept the top four. The Rimini native has called the track “difficult and unique” this week. Still, the RS-GP26 has proven adaptable to every circuit so far. If Bezzecchi wins in Austin, his title credentials become almost impossible to question.

I love this value on Bezzecchi at plus-money. I think this is an oddsmaker’s mistake that needs to be taken advantage of. He’s been the best rider, and you’re getting favorable odds, sign me all the way up.

Jorge Martin

Jorge Martin may be the most dangerous rider on the grid. The 2024 world champion endured a nightmare 2025 season, plagued by injuries. A crash in Sepang testing started the spiral. Multiple surgeries followed, including procedures for 11 broken ribs after his Qatar return. He even tried to switch from Aprilia to Honda before being talked out of it.

Now, Martin looks reborn. He sits second in the standings, just 11 points behind Bezzecchi. His second-place finish in Brazil was his first Sunday podium since being crowned champion. I won’t be surprised if he challenges for the win on Sunday.

These odds of +600 are very favorable, and I won’t hesitate to take them, as I expect Martin to continue to improve.

Fabio Di Giannantonio

Di Giannantonio has been Ducati’s most consistent rider through two rounds. He sits fourth in the championship with 37 points, three ahead of reigning champion Marquez. Brazil was a breakout weekend for the Italian. He claimed pole position, finished second in the Sprint and took third on Sunday. His wheel-to-wheel battle with Marquez has been a highlight of the early season.

He beat the champion in Sunday’s race after exchanging positions multiple times late on. Di Giannantonio has noted that Aprilia’s front-end stability gives the RS-GP an edge in hot conditions. Austin’s forecast calls for temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius on Sunday. This could play into Aprilia’s hands once again. Still, if Ducati fires up its tires early, Di Giannantonio has the talent to fight for the podium.

20-1 odds on Di Giannantonio is a fun dart throw on a rider being overlooked by oddsmakers.
