2022 Grand Prix Of Germany Betting Preview
We must begin our preview of the 2022 Grand Prix of Germany with one crazy, but true stat: the last time a rider not named Marc Marquez won this event was an entire decade ago — Dani Pedrosa in 2012. Sure, most of this streak took place during Marquez’s racing peak (amid six world championships), but he did take the 2021 event too.
Unfortunately for Marquez and Honda, that streak will end this weekend. He underwent surgery on his right humerus rather recently and remains out of the picture for the near future. It’s the latest in a string of injuries that’ve robbed Marquez’s career in recent years.
With Marquez down and out, the new betting favorite at major online sportsbooks is Fabio Quartararo, and he’s entering with a lot of momentum. The Frenchman captured a win at the most recent Catalan Grand Prix. With the victory, Quartararo is now 22 points clear of runner-up Aleix Espargaro in the world title standings. The only other multi-race winners in the grid — Enea Bastianini and Francesco Bagnaia — had DNFs, which further pushed them away from title contention.
The German Grand Prix is the third-to-last MotoGP competition before the summer break. The Dutch Tourist Trophy takes place the week directly after, June 26, followed by the Grand Prix of Finland on July 10. Then it’s a one-month layoff. So while plenty of miles and time lay ahead, Quartararo and Espargaro are beginning to separate themselves from the pack.

Do Bet — Fabio Quartararo
This should come as zero surprise to anyone that’s followed MotoGP. Quartararo and Yamaha have seized control of this season despite a really bad start. But ever since the Portugal Grand Prix, he’s been a regular podium finisher. We can’t see that changing in Germany. “Ride the hot hand” per se and double down on Quartararo to keep his winning ways.
Don’t Bet — Johann Zarco
Almost out of nowhere, Zarco has inched to fourth-overall in the MotoGP standings despite having zero wins and only three podiums. However, that doesn’t mean he’s really betting material. As far as we can tell, Zarco is only a contender to place top-3 if other noteworthy drivers get a DNF — which was the case in Catalan last time out. He’s too dependent on freak accidents in our book, it’s best to skip out on him entirely.
Do Bet — Pecco Bagnaia
If Bagnaia can finish a race, he’s been tough to beat. However, that’s been exactly his issue — though, not entirely due to fault of his own. Take the previous Catalan Grand Prix, for example. Nakagami’s opening crash ended Bangaia’s race only meters after it started (Alex Rins was also retired from this). This came only weeks after a bike issue forced Bagnaia into retirement whilst he was leading the Grand Prix of Italy.
Both unfortunate incidents have left Bagnaia 66 points behind Quartararo in the world title standings — despite having three outright victories this season, most among all riders. With little margin for error, we expect Bagnaia to be a top performer come Germany.
How To Watch & Bet The 2022 Grand Prix Of Germany
If you’re inside the United States and have watched MotoGP on TV before, you probably know the drift by now: it’s aired on tape delay. CNBC will broadcast the 2022 Grand Prix of Germany at 1:30 pm EST — but the race will be long over by then. That’s just the nature of a sport that takes place mostly in European time zones. So if you want to avoid spoilers, it’s probably best you avoid Internet use that morning.
