The 2022 NASCAR roadshow rolls on and this weekend sees the first Round of 12 race from Texas when the drivers compete in the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500. So with qualification for the Round of 8 up for grabs, here we bring you our latest NASCAR betting picks.
This weekend the race comes from the Texas Motor Speedway circuit in Fort Worth. It is the first of three Round of 12 races. The following two Round of 12 races come from Talladega Superspeedway on October 2nd and Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 9th.
At the end of these three races, a further four drivers will be eliminated, and we go into the Round of 8. We are now at the real business end of the season, and every race matters. So none of the 12 drivers still in the race to be the Cup Series champion can afford any mistakes from here on in.
What Happened at the Bass Pro Shops Night Race?
Chris Buescher secured his first win of the season in the Bass Pro Shops Night Race last weekend.
— NASCAR (@NASCAR) September 18, 2022
Buescher held off the Cup Series betting favorite, Chase Elliott, for the win at Bristol. Elliott was on the tail of Buescher for the final 50 laps of the race. But the Hendrick Motorsports driver couldn’t break Buescher, who held on for the win, and in doing so, became the 19th different winner this season.
Elliott eventually finished second, with William Byron 3rd, Christopher Bell 4th, and Kyle Larson in 5th position.
2022 NASCAR Cup Series: The current situation
After the race, four drivers were eliminated from the competition. Kyle Busch, Tyler Reddick, Austin Dillon, and Kevin Harvick were the four in question, and for two of those drivers, Busch and Harvick, it’s the first time in their careers they were knocked out in the Round of 16.
Harvick and Busch are also former Cup Series champions. So it will be a bitter blow for the duo.
With Chris Buescher winning at Bristol, it’s also the first time that all three Round of 16 races were won by non-playoff qualified drivers. Meaning of the 12 remaining drivers, all had to rely on points to get through.
The remaining 12 drivers are listed below in the latest betting to be the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series champion.

Who is the betting favorite to be the 2022 Cup Series champion driver?
The current favorite to be the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series champion is Chase Elliott. The Hendrick Motorsports driver is +300 with Xbet. Continuing to impress and now into outright second with the best NASCAR betting sites is Denny Hamlin at +450.
Hamlin finished ninth at Bristol over the weekend. But in the previous two Round of 16 races, he was second on both occasions, and very unlucky not to win both, or even one, of those races. Hamlin also comfortably qualified for the Round of 12, he currently sits sixth in the points table and is well positioned to challenge.
Third in the betting is Kyle Larson at +620. Larson was the favorite for pretty much the first half of the season. But after gradually being caught and passed by teammate Chase Elliott, he has now also been passed in the betting by Hamlin.
At odds of +620, the odds on Larson (who let’s not forget is the defending champion) are growing more appealing by the weeks. Larson (3019) currently sits fourth in the point table, 21 behind Elliott (3040), and six ahead of Hamlin (3013).

Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 Picks
It’s been a ridiculous season for making NASCAR picks in 2022, and that has continued with three non-playoff qualified drivers winning all three Round of 16 races.
So, continuing with that theme, I’m going for an in-form driver and a past winner who has just dropped out of the driver’s championship. Yes, I’m sure you’ve already guessed, it’s Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick.
Hamlin has been in exceptional form of late and this has seen him move into the second position in the betting to win the 2022 championship. At odds of +550, he’s a bit short, but that is because of his form. So Denny Hamlin is my first pick to win on Sunday.
Second, I’m going for Kevin Harvick. It’s an obvious call, he has a point to prove after missing out on the Round of 12, he has a great record here, and he is +2200. All this makes Kevin Harvick great value and my second betting pick.
