After a wild and wacky weekend in Talladega, NASCAR turns its focus toward the Dover Motor Speedway for the Wurth 400. Ahead of the April 30 race, we wanted to lay out our very best betting picks on who the Wurth winner could be. We’ve analyzed the entire field and three drivers got our money here. Keep on reading if you want to know who those three are!
NASCAR Wurth 400 Preview
First things first when previewing the upcoming Wurth 400, who the heck is even favored to win? We checked all the top betting sites for NASCAR and the odds are consistent across the board. Per the bookmakers, the drivers listed below are the frontrunners:
Drivers | ![]() | ![]() |
|
Kyle Larson | +600 | +600 | +600 |
William Byron | +650 | +650 | +650 |
Chase Elliott | +750 | +750 | +750 |
Denny Hamlin | +900 | +900 | +900 |
Christopher Bell | +900 | +900 | +900 |
Kevin Harvick | +1100 | +1100 | +1100 |
Martin Truex Jr. | +1200 | +1200 | +1200 |
Alex Bowman | +1200 | +1200 | +1200 |
Ross Chastain | +1300 | +1300 | +1300 |
The first thing that jumps out about the Wurth 400 odds is how short they are among the favorites. We mean, Larson is at +600. Rarely in this unpredictable sport do you see drivers with lines that short. For comparison’s sake, the number-one favorite a week ago was Chastain and he was as long as +1000 to win.
Sure, Talladega’s 500-miler on that massively-long track lends itself to chaos (which we’ll get to shortly), but it’s not like the Dover Motor Speedway is a gimme course either. Because of the track’s high banking turns and narrow straightaways, they call it the “Monster Mile.” Drivers are on the edge due to that layout. Even one mistake and a pileup could ensue.
NASCAR is coming off a ‘Dega race marred by crashes. Bubba Wallace and Ryan Blaney crashed with a lap to go — when both had been vying for first place at the time. Wallace created a chain reaction of other wrecks which put several drivers out of competition. Busch capitalized on the mishaps to win outright in Talladega. He’s now up to two wins and fifth in the Cup Series standings. Ahead of him (in order from first to fourth) are Bell, Chastain, Harvick, and Larson.
This Sunday’s race will be lived-aired by FS1 too. The flag goes down at 2 pm EST for those that want to keep tabs on their bets in real time. Speaking of which, let’s talk about who those bets should even be in the first place.
Best Bets To Win NASCAR Wurth 400
We’re not taking any unneeded risks at this Monster Mile and putting all our money on a single driver. No way, not at a track that enjoys pileups like this one. Our strategy for betting on the NASCAR Wurth 400 winner instead involves “spreading the wealth” in three drivers. Here’s who those three are:
Kyle Larson
Larson is almost must-bet material here despite the short odds. Quite simply, he has a deep track record at Dover. His career average finish here (6.9) is the best among all active drivers. Sure, he’s only won at Dover once before (Fall 2019), but he’s almost a lock to finish in the top-5. He’s done so seven times in 14 career races. At the very least, bet on him to finish top-3. We’re adding risk and taking him as a straight-up winner though.
Kyle Busch
We’ll be honest, picking Busch here is more of a value play than anything else. We mean, how is he as far as +1600 to win the checkered flag? Busch has exceeded expectations all 2022 with Richard Childress and bookmakers are still overlooking him. We won’t be doing the same. Over his illustrious career, Busch has racked up three wins and four runner-ups here so we fully expect him to be in the mix late.
Kevin Harvick
Somehow, someway Harvick is up to three in the Cup Series standings. He’s done so under the radar without any wins or major performances. But what the veteran has going for him is consistency — both in 2023 and at Dover in general. For the year, he’s finished top 10 in half his races. At Dover, he’s finished ninth or better in eight straight races. Harvick will be honored at the track this weekend too as it’s his final season before retirement. He’s a sneaky pick to round out your Wurth 400 betting selections.
