The legendary Talladega Superspeedway is the sight of the next NASCAR betting race and we have an in-depth guide on betting it. We’ve done the hard research to figure out who the top NASCAR YellaWood 500 betting picks are and we’re giving ’em to for you free!
But before we do that, it would suit us to see how the betting markets currently are. As of this posting, the online sportsbooks have the following drivers as the favorites to win in Lincoln, Alabama.
It should be noted how steep and close the betting odds are for the favorites. Hamlin, the frontrunner, at +900 is to win, which is longer odds than most betting favorites have had in recent memory — for comparison, Kyle Busch was last week’s favorite and he was only +400 to win. Then after Hamlin, it’s a crowded field with most drivers separated by a meager +100 or +200. Looks like it’s anyone race to win come Sunday.
NASCAR Playoffs Update
Speaking of last week, let’s start there. The South Point 400 in Las Vegas was the opening competition of the Round of 12 playoff betting. Hamlin took the checkered flag in Nevada, which guarantees him a spot in the Round of 8. After his performance last weekend, Hamlin will also be the polesitter comes Talladega. If that wasn’t enough of an edge, here’s one more: Hamlin won this same event a year ago. It should come to no one’s surprise why Hamlin is the favorite here.
After Talladega, there will be one more Round of 8 events in Charlotte before the stage is finished. The bottom four drivers in the standings will be eliminated for title contention post-Charlotte. At the moment, Christopher Bell, Alex Bowman, Kevin Harvick, and William Byron are facing elimination.
One more note about Talladega. It’s the second NASCAR race at the track this year. The first, the Geico 500, was won by Brad Keselowski back in late April.
NASCAR 2021 YellaWood 500 Betting Picks
As we said, the odds are especially long for this race. Therefore, it makes sense to really “spread the wealth” when wagering on the winner. You could realistically bet six or so different drivers and still end up pretty profitable if one of them cashes out. Knowing that we have three drivers that you should strongly consider following with that strategy:
Talladega is a mixed bag for almost all drivers — hence the scattered betting odds across the board. However, one of the few competitors that have had recent success in ‘Bama is Byron. He has back-to-back top-5 finishes at Dega, in fact, he’s the only driver that can claim that during the same span. That, combined with the sheer desperation of being on the verge of elimination, could push Byron to a victory.
Like the Byron pick, we also like Logano based on his history at Dega. He’s won three different times at this track (2015, 2016, and 2018). Admittedly, he’s struggled as of late — 11th is his best finish in the past four tries here — but his track record remains better than most of the field. Getting a semi-recent three-time winner at +1000 odds feels like pure value for us.
While Logano has history at Talladega, Keselowski IS history at this very track. His win earlier this season was his sixth all-time at the 2.66-mile track. That’s tied for second-most in NASCAR history alongside greats like Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon. The only driver with more success at Dega than Keselowski is Earnhardt Sr. (10 wins). Keselowski is a savvy veteran and it’s never a bad idea to wager with him inside a superspeedway.
