The NBA trade deadline passed on Thursday and while there was some talk that the Los Angeles Lakers would look to make a trade to remove Russell Westbrook from their lineup, neither the Lakers nor the Golden State Warriors made a deal at the 2022 NBA trade deadline.
The Lakers first game after the trade deadline takes place on Saturday, February 12 when the team heads to San Francisco to face the Warriors.
The Lakers and Warriors opened their 2021-22 seasons against each other. In that game, which took place on October 19, the Warriors defeated the Lakers by a score of 121-114 in Los Angeles.

Lakers breakdown:
The Los Angeles Lakers were expected to contend for the 2021-22 NBA Championship. The team is currently in ninth place in the Western Conference with a record of 26-30 and fighting to stay in playoff contention.
Los Angeles has not had a good start to 2022. The team is 8-11 on the year and they have not won back-to-back games since they went 4-0 between December 31 and January 7. The Lakers are coming off a 107-105 loss to Portland and have lost two in a row.

Lakers’ team leader LeBron James said of the team’s struggles, “Obviously, this is something that’s weighing on this group that we’re all trying to get through. Almost feels like it’s a fog, just fog in the air. And we’re all trying to see what’s on the other side of it.”
James leads the Lakers in scoring with 29.1 points per game, but he has only played in 39 of the team’s 56 games this season.
Warriors breakdown:
Golden State had a rough start to 2022. The club went 5-6 in its first 11 games of the year, only winning back-to-back outings on January 1 and 3. Things turned around for the Warriors on January 21 when they squeaked by the Houston Rockets with a 105-103 win. Including the win over the Rockets, the Warriors won nine straight games. The Warriors winning streak ended on February 9 with a 111-85 loss to the Utah Jazz.
The Warriors are the No, 2 team in the NBA’s Western Conference with a record of 41-14. The team trails the Phoenix Suns by 3.5 games.

The thing to remember about the Warriors is they are still easing Klay Thompson into the lineup. Thompson missed all of the 2021 season and did not get back on the court for the Warriors until January 9. As it stands, Thompson is well under his normal playing time per game. Despite his lack of minutes, Thompson is averaging 16.7 points per game.
The Warriors look like a complete team this year and have been at or near the top of the NBA standings for the entire season.
Our Pick:
The Lakers can’t find their footing this season and I don’t expect a game against the red hot Golden State Warriors will be when and where Los Angeles turns things around.
Pick: Golden State to beat Los Angeles.
