The Dallas Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors are in the 2022 NBA Western Conference Finals. This is the second time the teams have met in the NBA playoffs. The first time came in 2007 when the Mavericks were the No. 1 seed in the West, and the Warriors were the No. 8 seed. The Warriors won that series in six games.
This season, Golden State was the No. 3 seed, and the Mavericks were No. 4. Golden State, who missed the playoffs in 2020 and 2021 after five straight trips to the NBA Final — and three NBA Championships — defeated the Denver Nuggets (4-1) and Memphis Grizzlies (4-2) to earn their spot in the Western Conference Finals.
The Mavericks have not gone this deep into the NBA playoffs since winning the NBA title in 2011. Since then, Dallas has missed the postseason on four occasions and been eliminated in the first round six times. The past two seasons, the Los Angeles Clippers ended the Mavericks’ playoff run in Round 1. This year, Dallas defeated the Utah Jazz (4-2) and Phoenix Suns (4-3) to make their way to the Western Conference Finals.
The Golden State Warriors could close out the series and move on to the NBA Finals with a win over the Dallas Mavericks when the teams meet tonight in Dallas. Golden State has a 3-0 series lead over Dallas (109-100, 126-117, 112-87)

Golden State Warriors breakdown and analysis
The Golden State Warriors were one of the favorites to win the 2022 NBA title at the beginning of the season. Oddsmakers faded the team as the season progressed in favor of the Denver Nuggets. However, with Denver out of the picture and the Warriors one win away from securing a berth in the Finals, the Warriors are looking like the team that was the favorite to claim the title.
Golden State has averaged 114.5 points per game during the 2022 postseason on 49.3 percent shooting from the field while holding their opponents to 108.3 points per game.
The Warriors have been led by Steph Curry, who is averaging 27.1 points per game. In addition to Curry, the team has Klay Thompson (19.5), Jordan Poole (18.9), and Andrew Wiggins (15.9) to help with the offense. In Game 3, four of the Warriors’ starters hit double digits in scoring.
Dallas Mavericks breakdown and analysis
Luka Doncic made history after Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals. It was not a good kind of history. With the team’s loss in that Game — and Doncic scoring 40 points in that setback — he joined Devin Booker, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, and Jerry West as the only players to lose both games after recording 40-points in consecutive playoff performances. Worse, Doncic and Rick Barry are the only players who have lost four consecutive games where they put up 40 points.
Doncic and Jalen Brunson, who has averaged 22.7 points per game in the playoffs, are leading the Mavericks, but after Brunson and Doncic, who are averaging 32.1 points per postseason performance, there is a big drop off in offense.
Dallas needs more from players like Reggie Bullock, who went 0-10 from the field and 0-7 in 3-pointers in Game 3 on 40 minutes of time on the court.
Our pick
The Dallas Mavericks will play desperation basketball tonight. The team does not want to get swept and does not want to get swept in front of a home crowd. I think they will extend the series to five games with a home win at American Airlines Arena.
Pick: Dallas Mavericks to beat Golden State Warriors in Game 4 of the 2022 NBA Western Conference Finals.
