Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors won back-to-back NBA Most Valuable Player awards in 2015 and 2016. Currently, in his 12th season in the NBA, the 33-year-old superstar is the early favorite to take home his third MVP.
Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo follow Curry in the rankings. Durant, who played with Curry on the Golden State Warriors for three seasons — winning two NBA titles during that run — is part of the Brooklyn Nets. Durant has one MVP award to his name. He took home that title in 2014 as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Luke Curry, Durant is 33. The 26-year-old Antetokounmpo, who plays for the Milwaukee Bucks, won the NBA MVP in 2019 and 2020.
Curry finished third in the voting last season behind the 76ers Joel Embiid and winner Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets.
A panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters selects the NBA MVP. One vote from NBA fans goes toward the selection.
The winner of the NBA MVP award receives the Maurice Podoloff Trophy. Podoloff was the first NBA commissioner. He served from 1946 until he retired in 1963.

NBA MVP Odds
Steph Curry
Curry is the current favorite to win the MVP, but with the Golden State Warriors playing a solid team game (9-1) and with players such as Jordan Poole stepping up their game, Curry’s standing as an MVP contender might drop as the season wears on. However, Curry, who recently put up 50 points in a game, is averaging 27.6 points per game to go along with 6.6 rebounds and 6.6 assists.

If Curry wins the MVP award a third time, he will join Moses Malone, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson in the group of three-time winners.
Giannis Antetokounmpo
The Bucks are not playing well as a team. They have a 5-6 record and are behind the Bulls and Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference’s Central Division. Despite the club’s rough start, Antetokounmpo is playing well. He is tied with Curry for second in the NBA in points per game, but his rebound total is better at 11.5 per game. Antetokounmpo also averages 5.8 assists per game.
A third win for Antetokounmpo would put him in reach of matching Wilt Chamberlin and LeBron James, who have won the MVP four times. Michael Jordan and Bill Russell have won the award five times and Kareem-Abdul Jabbar is the all-time leader with six MVP awards. Jabbar won three MVP awards with Milwaukee and three more with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Kevin Durant
Durant currently leads the NBA in scoring with 29.5 points per game while adding 8.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists. Durant’s play has helped a Brooklyn club who might be without Kyrie Irving for the entire season hand near the top of the Atlantic Division. The Nets are currently 7-4 on the season.

Nikola Jokic
The reigning NBA MVP is not out of the running for a second consecutive title. Jokic is in the top-10 in NBA scoring with 25.4 points per game. Jokic is third in the league in rebounds with 13.6.
