Phoenix Analysis

The Suns won their 17th straight game with their victory over Golden State on Tuesday. What made the win over the Warriors, who entered the game with an 18-2 record on the season, even more impressive is that Phoenix lost their top scorer, Devin Booker, to an injury 15 minutes into the contest.

The game was tightly contested, and the lead changed hands seven times, but Phoenix was able to get things done in front of a home crowd.

Jordan Poole led Phoenix in scoring with 28 points in the matchup. The Phoenix defense did a great job in limiting Steph Curry as a player and the Warriors as a team. Golden State managed 42 points in the second half.

Mikal Bridges shut down Curry with his exceptional defensive play.

Booker’s injury is to his left hamstring. The team said it is a minor injury, but that it plans to be cautious and that Booker will miss a few games. With the team having an 18-3 record after its win over the Warriors, it makes sense to hold Booker out.

The Suns are the third best road scoring team in the NBA this season with an average of 112.8 points per game, which is slightly higher than their home scoring average of 111.6. Phoenix ranks seventh in road scoring defense this season and gives up an average of 105.2 points per game.

Golden State Analysis

Golden State closed out November with an impressive 13-2 record for the month. The team’s first setback in November came on the 14th when they lost 106-102 to the Charlotte Hornets. The second loss came in Phoenix to the Suns on the 30th. The team looks to start December with a win when they welcome the Suns to Chase Center on Friday night.

Steph Curry had an abysmal game against the Suns on Tuesday. Curry went 4-for-21 (19%) shooting and 3-for-14 (21.4%) in three pointers. Those numbers are the worst of Curry’s career for a game where he took at least 20 shots. Curry had two turnovers and had a plus-minus of -17, which was tied for worst in the game with Kevon Looney. Curry, who is averaging a team-leading 27.8 points per game, was held to 12 points.

Golden State is the highest scoring team at home in the NBA this season. The club has averaged 116.8 points at Chase Center and they have held teams to the second lowest total at home this season with an average of 100.2 points.

MyTopSportsbook’s Picks

I expect the Suns and Warriors to contend for the top spot in the Western Conference for most. if not all the 2021-22 NBA season. With that, each time the teams face off this season, it should be a must watch game.

Pick Golden State to win. The Warriors will be rested for Friday’s matchup. They have not played since the Tuesday meeting and that will give the team and coaching staff time to dial in everything they need to pull even with the Suns in the season series.

Pick the under. With Booker out and the Suns defense dialed in against Curry, this doesn’t look like it will be a high-scoring affair.
