  • What: 2024/25 Men’s College Basketball
  • Who: Creighton Bluejays vs. Texas A&M Aggies
  • Where: MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada
  • When: Wednesday, November 27th, 2024
  • Tip-Off: 6.30 pm. ET

The clash between Creighton and Texas A&M will be both teams’ second matches in two days at the Thanksgiving event.

Both teams suffered defeats in their respective opening matches on Tuesday. Creighton lost 71-53 to the San Diego Aztecs. The loss means the Bluejays are 4-2 this season. The Bluejays have now also lost two in a row.

Texas A&M didn’t fare much better in the later match. The Aggies were defeated 80-70 by the Oregon Ducks. The setback means the Aggies are now 4-2 this season.

In the latest AP Top 25 rankings issued on Monday, the Bluejays dropped seven places from 14 to 21. This came off the back of their disappointing 74-63 loss to Nebraska last weekend. Creighton started the season ranked No.15.

Texas jumped three places from No.23 to No.20, passing the Bluejays on their way up.

Their impressive second-half fightback against the Southern Jaguars last week must have impressed. However, it is fair to ask how they found themselves 39-25 down at the halfway point.

The Aggies started the season at No.13. They dropped ten places after an opening 64-61 defeat to the UCF Knights at the Addition Financial Arena.

The Aggies did bounce back well with five wins in a row. But last night’s loss is a further setback.

Creighton Bluejays

Before Tuesday night’s defeat against the Aztecs, the Bluejays were 4-1 in this season.

Their four previous wins came against UTRGV (99-86), FDU (96-70), Houston Christian (78-43), and Kansas City (79-56). Their other defeat was the 74-63 reversal at home to Nebraska.

The Nebraska defeat was in the match before the 18-point loss to San Diego last night. As a result, Creighton is now on a two-match losing skid.

The Bluejays are the +375 second favorites to win the Big East. Winning this conference is a hard task in the current era, with back-to-back National Championship-winning UConn favored at +120.

Creighton is +4000 to win the 2025 National Championship.

In the 2024 postseason, head coach Greg McDermott led the Bluejays to the Sweet Sixteen. Seeded No.3, they came up short against the No.2 Tennessee, going down 82-75.

Texas A&M Aggies

Before last night’s 10-point loss to the Ducks, the Aggies had recorded wins over TAMUC (87-55), Lamar (97-71), Ohio State (78-64), and the Southern Jaguars (71-54). The other defeat this season came against UCF in their opening match of the campaign.

The Aggies are the +1400 fifth favorites to win the Southeastern. The favorite in the SEC regular-season betting is the Alabama Crimson Tide at +225. Also in the mix are Auburn (+250), Tennessee (+350), and Arkansas (+1200).

In the betting to win the 2025 National Championship match the Aggies are big outsiders at +7500.

Last season they got as far as the second round in the postseason tournament. The Aggies lost a hard-fought match against No.1 seed Houston (100-95) after overtime.

Creighton Bluejays vs. Texas A&M Aggies Betting Picks

Neither of these teams were ever likely to be the front runners in their respective conferences. But neither would have expected to have two losses against them at this early stage of the proceedings.

Last night’s defeats make this game huge. Someone will have three defeats already come the end of this next match.

It’s hard to work out who is in the worst form. Creighton has lost two in a row. And although the Aggies are the favorites and have won four of their last five, they did find themselves 39-25 down at the halfway point in the match before their loss to the Ducks last night.

Instead of going from form, we will look at the betting stats for a steer.

The stats are showing that Creighton has covered just once in six matches against the spread this season. Texas has covered in three matches out of six.

That suggests Creighton is underperforming more.

The two teams conceded a total of 151 points last night. The spread for this match is 143.5, with the spread-implied score standing at 74-70 in favor of the Aggies.

We’re going to name two picks here. Choose whichever one you feel comfortable with. Picking a winner is hard on form. But based on the above, we are going for the Aggies to win and cover.

But for our main pick, we are going for over 143.5 points. This bet looks like a safer wager than trying to work out which version of two underperforming teams is likely to show up.
