LSU quarterback Joe Burrow has been the story of the young college football season, jumping all the way from a 200-1 Heisman Trophy afterthought in August to a 4-1 contender with the third-best chance to win the award.

JOE BURROW IS ON FIRE
Through three games, the Tigers senior quarterback has tossed 11 touchdowns, leads the nation with an 83.3 completion percentage and sits second in the country with 1,122 passing yards.
Unlike Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts, he’s also faced a ranked opponent, throwing for 471 yards and four scores in a Week 2 road win over Texas.

Leading a lethal new spread attack, Burrow should continue to pile up stats against Vanderbilt this Saturday.
TREVOR LAWRENCE KEEPS FALLING
Locked in as a Heisman co-favorite with Tua all summer long, Clemson’s sophomore gunslinger is down to +750 to win the award after tossing five interceptions in his first three games.
The 19-year-old quarterback threw for three touchdowns and ran for another in a 41-6 win over Syracuse on Saturday night and still saw his odds slip from +400 last week.

After dominating victories over Georgia Tech, Texas A&M and Syracuse, the Tigers have won 18 straight games, the longest streak in the nation, and are unlikely to lose this season with no games left on the schedule against ranked opponents.
That sounds like a recipe for the flowing-haired phenom to get back on track.
JUSTIN FIELDS JUMPS INTO THE RACE
Along with Jalen Hurts, I listed Justin Fields as my best Heisman bet the spring because he would be at the controls of Ryan Day’s explosive Ohio State offense.
And, with the No. 7 Buckeyes now looking like a true title contender, I’ll continue to recommend placing a bet on the star transfer from Georgia.
Following the team’s 51-10 road romp over Indiana this past weekend, Fields has now compiled 657 passing yards and nine touchdowns through the air with another 114 yards and four scores on the ground.

He’s also completed 70.3 percent of his throws, has a 185.0 quarterback rating, and was rated by PFF as the most-accurate QB in the country following Week 2.
Facing a tougher rest-of-season schedule than both Tua and Hurts, there’s still plenty of time for Fields to win over Heisman voters.
