The Texas Longhorns did not get off to a great start for their 2025 college football season. Texas traveled to play Ohio State, with the two teams playing in Columbus, Ohio. Quarterback Arch Manning had the world watching him, but the redshirt sophomore quarterback struggled going up abasing the Ohio State Buckeyes defense and defensive coordinator Matt Patricia.

Manning ended up throwing for 170 yards, one touchdown and one interception. In the fourth quarter, Manning got hot to cut the deficit to 14-7 but the Texas Longhorns weren’t able to complete the comeback. Leading up to the game, people thought the young QB could be the best in the game, but the latest Arch Manning Heisman odds took a huge dive for Week 2. Is anyone surprised by this?

Arch Manning is no longer the betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy
It really isn’t surprising that Arch Manning is no longer the betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, as many other players in college football looked much better than him to open the season. The list of course includes University of South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers, who has the top NCAAF betting odds to win it. LaNorris Sellers played strong on August 31 in Atlanta taking on Virginia Tech.
Sellers threw for 209 yards and a touchdown. The USC quarterback also had another touchdown rushing. With how great Sellers looked, it has people talking about him being a finalist for the Heisman Trophy this season. According to the best sports betting sites, he holds +900 odds. “He’s a stud,” coach Shane Beamer said of Sellers. “He’ll be the first to tell you he missed some throws as well. Could have been better. He’ll be the first to tell you. But he’s just a guy that’s a super, super competitive guy.”
Another quarterback who played well was Miami’s Carson Beck. The Miami Hurricanes and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish played on Sunday night and the Hurricanes were able to fend off a strong performance from head football coach Marcus Freeman and his players. It wasn’t easy for Miami, but they are now the number five team in the Associated Press Top 25 rankings.
With other strong performances too, Arch Manning has a lot of work to do in order to be considered one of the top quarterbacks in the country. Right now, he and Texas are being overlooked, which they’re going to want to change as soon as possible. Beck and Sellers will keep impressing at quarterback too.
