Both the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Missouri Tigers are coming off of disappointing performances last week. The Gamecocks were able to overcome their lackluster showing by beating Vanderbilt. Missouri wasn’t so lucky, falling to Indiana, 31-27. The two teams will face off on Saturday (7:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN), as both hope to redeem themselves.

Missouri wasn’t so lucky, falling to Indiana, 31-27. The two teams will face off on Saturday (7:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN), as both hope to redeem themselves.
The 13th-ranked Gamecocks are 3-1, but head coach Steve Spurrier is not impressed. “We’ve all seen good football teams, we ain’t one,” Spurrier said after last week’s game. “Don’t say we’re one right now. The way we play? Maybe we can be? I don’t know. It was no fun for me watching us play tonight.”
Spurrier did cool down a bit during the week though. “We still believe we have a chance to have a good team this year. We’re 3-1 and have won some close ones,” he pointed out. “We’ve played some pretty good teams. We didn’t think Vandy was going to be that good, but they played their hearts out. Probably out-played us. Probably out-hustled us in a lot of areas.”
Of course, Spurrier will want a much better performance this week against Missouri. The 3-1 Tigers are coming off their own embarrassing display.
Said Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk of the loss to Indiana: “Obviously, you don’t want that, but we’re going to bounce back and I have no doubt everybody’s going to get healthy and we’re going to come out ready to play Saturday.”
Missouri will need to cut down on negative plays and penalties to give itself a chance on the road. Moreover, some new players will have to step up because the Tigers lost a few key offensive players to injury against Indiana.
South Carolina is currently favored at -6 in this one. The over/under stands at 63.
