The last time Virginia Tech was such an underdog in the college football odds was back in 1992 when they faced the Miami Hurricanes; they are 20.5 point dogs for this Saturday matchup against the current champions, Alabama Crimson Tide, to be play at 5:30 PM at the Georgia Dome.
Alabama said they are not considering the Hokies a small opponent; in fact, the complete opposite. “I feel like if you don’t think that way, you’re kind of irrelevant a little to the team,” quarterback AJ McCarron said Monday. “Everybody needs to have the same mindset. We can’t worry about what everybody thinks, what everybody’s predicting. Just go out and play the game and take one play at a time, one game at a time and we’ll be all right.”
For the record, Virginia Tech was a 19 point dog against βThe Uβ and lost by 20 points.
he Hokies needs Logan Thomas to be a little more consistent.Β He threw 18 TDs and 16 interceptions last season; numbers like those wonβt scare anybody from Tuscaloosa.
“I think he understands, hey, this is his team,” VT Head coach Frank Beamer said. “I think he’s more take charge. I think Logan handles things real well, and how he handles taking charge, I think he handles it in a good way, a very natural way.”
The game total is set at 45.5 points, but most people think thereβs no room for an upset; this should be the first step for the Bama βThree-peatβ.
“We can’t worry about it. That was a different team then, and it’s a different team now. Got different players and different mindsets among the team as individuals. We’ve got to focus on our goal this year, our purpose to be out there. You don’t really win the game on Saturday. You win it every day before that”, said McCarron.
