TCU beat the Lions 38-17 last week as quarterback Trevone Boykin threw for 133 yards and two touchdowns. “We didn’t play to our level of ability,” Boykin said. “… We have to do way better next week against Texas Tech.”
“When he’s in there I feel as comfortable as I do with Casey, and everybody on the team feels the same way,” running back B.J. Catalon said. “(Boykin) can make plays with his feet and throw the ball.”
Texas Tech is 2-0 this season with their last win coming off a 61-13 victory over the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks.
Freshman QB Michael Brewer is out for this matchup with a back injury, but his place has been taken by freshman Baker Mayfield who has 7 TDs without a turnover in the first two games of the season.
“Anytime you have a true freshman in a new system who didn’t get here too long ago come in and move the ball like he’s moved it, that’s exciting,” Kingsbury said. “Hopefully, he’ll just keep getting better.”
Texas Tech is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games at home. The total has gone UNDER in 5 of TCU’s last 7 games on the road.
