- BetOnline has Georgia QB JT Daniels (+600) as a slight Heisman Trophy favorite over Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler (+700)
- Bryce Young (+1000), CJ Stroud (+1100) and D.J. Uiagalelei (+1100) are also in the mix as Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson are viewed as National Championship contenders
- The 2021 college football season is set to begin on Saturday, August 28
In 2020, DeVonta Smith became the first receiver to win the Heisman Trophy in 29 years, which should only highlight the fact that this is very much a quarterback award with passers winning 12 times in the past 15 seasons.
However, while Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields were viewed as unanimous 1-2 contenders at this time last August, there’s a wide-open field for college football’s most prestigious award in 2021.
With just over two weeks until the start of the season, let’s look at the latest Heisman odds and be sure to check out our tips for betting on college football games.

Who will hoist the Heisman?
With the Bulldogs expected to contend for a National Championship, JT Daniels (+600) has built steady momentum through the offseason and is now the Heisman favorite. After taking the reins in Georgia’s final four games of 2020, the fourth-year junior quarterback put up big offensive numbers and he should be even more comfortable in year two of Todd Monken’s system. But, the former five-star USC recruit is not mobile by any means and has already lost his best receiver, George Pickens, to a knee injury.
Spencer Rattler (+700) looks to become the third Oklahoma QB to win the Heisman in the last five years, following former No. 1 overall draft picks Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray. The redshirt sophomore tightened his command of Lincoln Riley’s offense as last season wore on, throwing four touchdowns in the Sooners’ Cotton Bowl win over Florida. And, unlike Daniels, he’s a threat on the ground.
ESPN on JT Daniels and the Georgia offense: "You’ve got a ridiculously high ceiling.

Bryce Young (+1000), CJ Stroud (+1100) and D.J. Uiagalelei (+1100) all have tough acts to follow in Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson. While Mac Jones is your prototypical pocket passer, Bama is expected to feature Young in a RPO attack similar to the one Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa ran. Stroud will have two explosive Buckeyes receivers to target in Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson, but winning a Heisman as a true freshman is a tall order.
Uiagalelei might be the best bet of the three. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound sophomore threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns vs. Boston College in a spot start for Lawrence last year before following that up with a 439-yard multi-touchdown gem at Notre Dame. Then again, Clemson could pull him while blowing out subpar ACC competition. Keep in mind that Lawrence never won a Heisman.
Best values on the board
Sam Howell (+1400) is a leading contender to be the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft. Drawing comparisons to Baker Mayfield, the junior racked up 68 TDs in his first two college seasons and his Tar Heels could go undefeated in the ACC Coastal Division with no games against Clemson on the slate.
D’Eriq King (+2000) is looking to become the first Miami player in almost 30 years to win a Heisman. He had a strong debut for the Hurricanes in 2020, passing for 2,686 yards and 23 touchdowns and rushing for 538 yards and four scores. Given his Canes are listed at 50-1 to win the national title, the redshirt senior will need to put up Lamar Jackson-like numbers to claim the award.
