Jon Sumrall is the favorite to become the new head coach of LSU football
“I’ve dealt with it every year as a head coach, I understand it comes with the territory, I get those questions because we’re having success,” Sumrall told reporters in response to the LSU rumors that are popping up. “That is about our players. The coaching carousel to me is not even in the thought because we’re in the mid-season phase.”
Sumrall is a young coach and he’s also been mentioned as a candidate for other openings as well. Kiffin is also being linked to the open Florida job. When it comes to LSU, it’s one of the best jobs in the SEC and after the terrible experience with Kelly in charge, the Tigers can’t afford to botch things again.
In addition to Sumrall and Kiffin, Joe Brady is another coach that a lot of LSU fans are focusing on. He’s currently the offensive coordinator for the Bills of Buffalo in the National Football League. Brady is no stranger to LSU, as he helped the team win the national title in 2019.
A lot of analysts think that Brady might be a top candidate, but others think that he might have his eyes set on a head coaching position in the NFL instead of the college level. If that’s the case, then maybe he won’t be too interested in a return to the campus in Baton Rouge.
There are a lot of things up in the air for the Tigers of LSU, but a new hire will be made soon enough. Kiffin seems to be the top choice for a lot of people, but Sumrall being the betting favorite makes sense. It will be interesting to see if he ends up getting the job or not. It seems like he’s more than qualified for it if he does get an offer.
