Updated National Championship and Heisman Futures after Week 3

  • BetOnline‘s updated 2022 NCAAF Championship odds have Alabama (+180) and Georgia (+250) as the only locks to make the college football playoff
  • Clemson (+1000), Ohio State (+1000) and Oklahoma (+1000) were all unimpressive in Week 3 victories
  • Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral (+150) is the new Heisman Trophy favorite after scoring 7 touchdowns against Tulane on Saturday

Through three weeks of the college football season, 18 ranked teams have lost — a record in the AP poll era. While the traditional powers escaped Week 3 with victories, Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Oklahoma all looked fallible on Saturday.

Let’s recap the noteworthy Week 3 action and look at the updated National Championship and Heisman Trophy futures. Here’s where you can also get more of our winning tips for betting on college football games.

Alabama survives scare

Alabama (+180) jumped ahead of No. 11 Florida 21-3 early before being gashed on the ground for 258 yards. The Crimson Tide barely survived their trip to the Swamp with a 31-29 win, but it’s hardly panic time in Tuscaloosa given that all the top teams looked beatable in Week 3 with the exception of Georgia (+250), who cruised to a 40-13 victory over South Carolina.

Clemson (+1000) looked nothing a national championship contender, squeaking by Georgia Tech 14-8 as quarterback DJ Uiagalele recorded his third-straight game under 200 yards passing. After losing to Oregon in Week 2, Ohio State (+1000) delivered another mediocre performance in a 41-20 victory over winless Tulsa. And Oklahoma (+1000) narrowly hung on to a 23-16 win over Nebraska with the Huskers having a chance to tie the game in the final minute.

The Crimson Tide and the Bulldogs are the only sure bets to make the College Football Playoff at this point. And while it will be nice to have some fresh blood in the tournament for a change, consider us skeptical that any school can take down Nick Saban’s dynasty.

Don’t read too much into the Gators game. Alabama remains an excellent bet to win another national championship at +180.

Bryce moves up the board

Matt Corral had four touchdown runs and three TD passes in the Rebels’ 61-21 demolition of Tulane on Saturday, improving his odds to win the Heisman to +150, from +1400 before the season and +600 last week. The Ole Miss stat-stuffer has benefited from poor showings from preseason award contenders such as Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler (+1200), UNC’s Sam Howell (+2000) and Clemson’s DJ Uiagalelei (+4000).

Bryce Young (+300) was perhaps the only Alabama star to play well in the Swamp, staying composed in a hostile environment while throwing for 233 yards, three scores and no picks.

While Derrick Henry is the only running back to win the Heisman in the past decade, it’s worth mentioning that the Buckeyes’ TreVeyon Henderson (+3300) ran for 277 yards against Tulsa, setting the school rushing record for a freshman.

Liberty quarterback Malik Willis saw his odds shorten from +7500 to +4000 after combining for 242 yards and 4 touchdowns through the air and 2 scores and 77 yards via the ground in a 45-17 stomping of Old Dominion. His competition might be sub-par, but the former Auburn QB’s numbers have been spectacular enough to warrant a dart throw at these odds.
