Alabama (No. 2)
The Alabama Crimson Tide are currently the No. 2 ranked team in the NCAAF Top 25 AP Poll after two weeks of play. Alabama opened the season with a 55-0 trouncing of Utah State. The team followed that with a 20-19 win over Texas in Week 2. That close game against Texas was one reason the Crimson Tide dropped from No. 1 to No. 2 in the latest AP Poll.
Alabama has won six national championships since 2009 and has played in six of the last seven championship games. The team has claimed 32 Conference titles over the year, including wins in 2020 and 2021, so it’s no surprise to see them near the top of the list to win in 2022-23.
Head Coach, Nick Saban welcomes back the core of the team that lost to Georgia in January, including outstanding defensemen Will Anderson and Dallas Turner, who combined for 26 sacks and 41 tackles for losses last year. The team also has reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young back as quarterback.
Georgia (No. 1)
The Georgia Bulldogs are the No. 1 ranked team in the current version of the NCAAF AP Poll. The team secured the top spot following Week 2 of the 2022 NCAAF season. Georgia opened the season with a 49-3 win over No. 11 ranked Oregon and followed that by shutting out Samford 33-0.
The defending National Champion Georgia Bulldogs have a chance to repeat their undefeated conference record from last year — and could go unbeaten overall — thanks to a favorable schedule and the fact they are an exceptional football team.
Last year marked Georgia’s first national title win in 41 years. The team has 15 Conference Titles, but the Bulldogs have not claimed the top spot in the SEC since 2017. Before that win the team last won the Conference in 2005.
Georgia was all about defense last year and while the team looks a little different in that area in 2022, five Bulldogs went in the first round of the NFL Draft, the school did a good job of replacing the departing players via recruitment.
Kentucky (No. 9)
The Kentucky Wildcats signaled that they are for real in 2022 with a 26-16 win over the University of Florida in Week 2 of the NCAAF season. Kentucky was No. 20 in the Top 25 poll before the game. With the win over the Gators, who entered the contest as the No. 12 team, Kentucky rocketed up to No. 9 in the AP Poll.
The Wildcats began last year with a 6-0 record. The team’s first loss came to Georgia. They finished the season at 10-3.
Quarterback Will Levis was a big factor in the team’s success last year. He threw for 2,827 yards and 24 touchdowns. Levis is back under center in 2022. The senior has thrown for 505 yards and four touchdowns in his first two games of the 2022 campaign.
Our pick
Alabama will be motivated this season and that, along with the enormous amount of talent the team has, should be enough to win them the SEC in 2022.
Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide to win the 2022 SEC Championship.
