Updated 2020 National Championship and Heisman Odds After Week 7

• Clemson (+120) is favored to win the national championship and Trevor Lawrence continues to increase his lead in the Heisman race 
  
• Justin Fields and Ohio State (+300) finally begin play this Saturday against Nebraska
  
• Mac Jones threw four touchdowns to lead Alabama (+325) over Georgia (+1400) in Week 7
  

This probably is not the week to place your Clemson national championship bets or any Heisman wagers on quarterback Trevor Lawrence. After the 21-year-old tossed five touchdowns in a ridiculously lopsided 73-7 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday, the odds of a Tigers national title and a bronze bust of Lawrence shortened even further.

Clemson is now a +120 favorite to win their third championship in five years and the soon-to-be No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft is -175 chalk to be voted college football’s most outstanding player. Starting with the national title odds at Bovada, let’s review both boards after Week 7 and discuss if anyone else even has a chance.

BUCKEYES ALMOST BACK IN ACTION

While Dabo Swinney’s boys have been beating up on cupcake competition for over a month, Ryan Day’s club finally returns to action this Saturday against Nebraska. Ohio State is a -350 favorite to win the Big Ten for a fourth-straight season and claim their third CFP berth in five years.

The Buckeyes stiffest test all season should come on Halloween versus No. 8 Penn State, although they’re already favored in the game by almost two touchdowns. In other words, their CFP spot is all but assured and it might be smart to bet on the Buckeyes to win the national championship at +300 before they start destroying everything in their path.

After trailing 24-20 at the half, No. 2 Alabama (+350) dominated No. 3 Georgia (+1400) until the final buzzer. Quarterback Mac Jones threw for 417 yards and four touchdowns and running back Najee Harris powered his way to 150 yards and a score, giving the Crimson Tide an impressive 41-24 victory. With both the Bulldogs and a Covid-19 scare behind him, Nick Saban has nothing to worry about for the foreseeable future.

JUSTIN FIELDS COULD BE A VALUE

With every touchdown throw, Trevor Lawrence (-175) increases his chances of both winning the Heisman and being drafted by the New York Jets, an increasingly plausible scenario that has many NFL fans worried for him.

Meanwhile, Justin Fields continues to fall back in the race without having set foot on a football field, dropping from +500 last week to +700 after Week 7. The Ohio State quarterback is plenty capable of putting up video-game numbers, but the unfair truth is that he’ll play at least three fewer games than Lawrence due to the Big Ten’s shortened scheduled.

While Alabama’s Mac Jones (+450) has moved ahead of the Buckeyes signal caller on the big board, we expect it to be temporary. In fact, it may change as soon as this weekend if Fields lights it up on Saturday.
