(5) Alabama Crimson Tide -17 vs Mississippi State Bulldogs

The Alabama Crimson Tide find themselves in unfamiliar circumstances when they return to action this weekend in a road date with the Mississippi State Bulldogs as heavy 17-point favorites at MyBookie. Smarting from a stunning 41-38 loss to Texas A&M that ended their epic 18-game straight up win streak, the Tide will hit the gridiron on Saturday night lagging at No. 5 on the AP Top 25 rankings, and looking up at the archrival Georgia Bulldogs, who have not only claimed the top of the rankings, but now also sit perched as newly anointed +120 favorites at Bovada to win this year’s CFP national championship.

In addition to suddenly finding themselves outside the CFP picture, the Crimson Tide also face the challenge of restoring the confidence of sports bettors, who have endured Alabama’s uneven performance at the sportsbooks since late last season. The Tide have managed to cover the spread in just three of six outings this season, and just four times in their past nine overall contests. That includes a dismal 1-3 ATS run in their past four away contests.

The upside for Bama is their recent dominance over Mississippi State. The Tide have won outright in 13 meetings with the Bulldogs since 2007, capped by last season’s crushing 41-0 win on home turf. However, they can ill afford to look past a well rested Mississippi State squad that enjoyed a bye last week after knocking off Texas A&M 26-22 as 7-point road underdogs. The Bulldogs have also been respectable performers on home turf, winning outright in four of their past six, and also sport a 5-2 SU record in their past seven meetings with major schools. However, they have consistently disappointed sports bettors during a 2-6 ATS run at home, a trend that is likely to continue this weekend.

The Pick: Alabama -17 (-110) at MyBookie

(11) Kentucky Wildcats vs (1) Georgia Bulldogs -22.5

Now in control of their own playoff destiny after seeing the Crimson Tide stumble last week, the Georgia Bulldogs face a critical test on their pursuit for a CFP berth, as they play host to the conference rival Kentucky Wildcats this weekend as loft 22.5-point home chalk on the NCAAF odds at BetOnline. The Bulldogs continued to roll last weekend, racking up a 34-10 road win over Auburn to improve their SU record to 6-0. The Georgia defense has played a massive role in the team’s success, leading the nation while surrendering just 5.5 points per game. That has fueled the team’s impressive 5-1 ATS record so far this season.

However, the Bulldogs could have their hands full against the Wildcats, who arrive at Sanford Stadium with an unblemished 6-0 SU record. Kentucky also sits alongside the Bulldogs atop the SEC East Division standings, and would like nothing better than to spoil Georgia’s party. The Wildcats also have plenty to gain with a strong performance on Saturday.

The team rocketed to No. 11 in the national rankings in the wake of last weekend’s 42-21 win over LSU. However, they are unlikely to keep things close on the road against Georgia. The Wildcats have lost 11 straight to the Bulldogs, and have scored just three total points in their past two meetings. That trend is a factor in Kentucky’s struggles to make gains on the odds to win the SEC conference title, where they continue to lag behind Alabama and Georgia as a lengthy +4000 bet at Bovada despite their fast start.

The Pick: Georgia -22.5 (-110) at BetOnline; OVER 45 (-108)
