The undefeated Wichita State Shockers will have their first real test of the season this Sunday as they clash against the Kentucky Wildcats, at 2:45 PM ET at the Scottrade Center, in St. Louis, Missouri, at March Madness’ round of 32.
The Shockers are 35-0 this season, but most people think they were benefited from terrible opponents; they have a lot to prove on Sunday. Wichita State beat Cal Poly 64-37 in first round of March Madness, covering a 17 point spread as favorites.
“We were very, very focused,” Shockers coach Gregg Marshall said. “It had been a long time since we’d played and this team had our attention.”
The Wildcats beat Kansas State 56-49 in the first round; Kentucky advanced and covered the six point spread, and now they are 4-0 against the spread in their last four outings.
“There haven’t been many teams come in undefeated like Wichita State, deserve their ranking, deserve their seeding,” Kentucky coach John Calipari said. “They play really hard. They have really good players. You don’t go 35-0 without really good players.”
Wichita State is a three-point favorite over Kentucky, with the game total going set at 133.5 points. The Shockers are 34-14-3 ATS in their last 51 games as a favorite, and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 NCAA Tournament games.
The Wildcats are 5-16 ATS in their last 21 games after allowing less than 50 points in their previous game.
