It’s a great day to be a Seahawks fan. In addition to securing the No. 5 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Seattle clinched a playoff berth when the Lions defeated the Packers on Sunday night. Pete Carroll’s club will now head to San Francisco to face their NFC West rivals.

San Francisco has won 10 straight games after a 3-4 start to the season. Since replacing injured quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, rookie Brock Purdy has thrown multiple pass touchdowns in six straight contests. George Kittle has been the biggest beneficiary, with seven spikes over the past four weeks. Christian McCaffrey is also a Comeback Player of the Year contender, racking up 746 rushing yards, 464 receiving yards and 10 combined TDs in his 11 games with the 49ers.
Kyle Shanahan’s club defeated the Seahawks 27-7 at home in Week 2 and secured a 21-13 victory in Seattle in Week 15. However, the offensive mastermind is only 4-8 all-time against Pete Carroll.

How good is Seattle?
Seattle notched its 10th playoff berth in 13 seasons under Pete Carroll and John Schneider. It was no doubt the sweetest of the ten for the coach-GM combo after shipping out longtime quarterback Russell Wilson for a haul of draft picks in the offseason. The Seahawks had lost five of six games after a scorching 6-3 start to the season, but squeaked into the playoffs with consecutive wins over the Jets and Rams.
In Sunday’s 19-16 victory over Los Angeles, Geno Smith set franchise records for passing yards (4,282), completions (399) and completion percentage (69.8). With a healthy Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, the journeyman QB will look to attack the Niners’ defense through the air.
San Francisco vs Seattle
San Francisco is a 10-point home favorite over Seattle and the over-under is set at 42.5 points. The UNDER would have hit comfortably in the teams’ previous meetings this year. However, both the 49ers (26.5) and Seahawks (23.9) rank in the top-10 in points scored per game. Kyle Shanahan’s club has also racked up more than 30 points in five of the past six contests.
The 49ers are even more impressive on the defensive side of the ball, holding opponents to a league-low 300.6 yards of offense per game. Defensive Player of the Year lock Nick Bosa led the NFL with 18.5 sacks in 2022. And DeMeco Ryan’s unit has enjoyed success versus Geno Smith this season. He’s averaged only 217.5 passing yards with a TD and an INT in the two losses.

Best Bet
There’s an old adage that it’s tough to beat a team three times in an NFL season. But it shouldn’t be too hard for Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell to run all over a Seahawks defense that has allowed eight different opponents to rush for at least 160 yards against them this season.
After a tense beginning, look for the 49ers to pull away in the 2nd half and cover the ten points.
