- The San Francisco 49ers are 1-point home favorites over the Los Angeles Rams.
- Sean McVay’s club defeated their division rivals in the NFC Championship Game last January.
- Monday Night Football kicks off from Levi’s Stadium on October 3 at 8:15 pm ET
Heading into last year’s NFC title game, Sean McVay was just 3-7 all-time against Niners coach Kyle Shanahan with six-straight losses. But his Rams overcame a ten-point fourth-quarter deficit to topple San Francisco en route to the franchise’s second Super Bowl championship.
Before we check the latest odds on this divisional rivalry game, here’s where you can find the best Super Bowl betting tips and the top betting sites for NFL football in 2022.

Road woes for the Rams?
Since being embarrassed by the Bills on opening night, the Rams have reeled off consecutive wins over the lowly Falcons and Cardinals. While their competition has been weak, why is Los Angeles a 1-point underdog to the 1-2 Niners? They’re coming off a pathetic 11-10 loss to Denver on Sunday Night Football, after all.
The answer can be found in the history books. Sean McVay’s club is just 1-4 on the road versus San Francisco since 2017, with their last victory coming way back in 2018. Looking to snap a three-game losing streak at Levi’s Stadium, they’ll face a hungry 49ers squad that will be desperate not to fall to 1-3.

The Jimmy G experience
On Sunday night, Jimmy Garoppolo reminded everyone why the Niners moved up in the 2021 NFL Draft to select Trey Lance. The 30-year-old journeyman lost a fumble, walked into the back of his endzone to give up a safety, and only managed to score three points on San Francisco’s final 12 drives.
He was also pressured on 21.4% of his dropbacks once Trent Williams left the game with a high-ankle sprain. While he’ll be missing his All-Pro left tackle on Monday Night Football, the Rams have just 13 total pressures this season. Their 11.4% pressure rate is the lowest in the NFL.
Niners vs. Rams
Matthew Stafford has thrown more interceptions (5) than touchdowns (4) this season and, for the first time in a Rams uniform, failed to toss a TD pass in a 20-12 win over the Cardinals. Running back Cam Akers finally got going in Sunday’s game, picking up 60 yards on ten carries in the final two quarters before fumbling on the goal line.
San Fran’s defense will provide a stiff test, but they have been soft in the red zone, allowing opponents to score three times in four opportunities for a 75% success rate. On the other side of the ball, the Niners’ offense is 27th in the league, with a redzone touchdown rate of 44%.
49ers could be without Trent Williams for both games against Rams

Best Bet
The Rams and 49ers look nowhere close to the teams that battled in last year’s NFC Championship Game. However, it’s easier to imagine Sean McVay’s club getting back to its peak form.
Without Trent Williams protecting his blindside on Sunday night, Jimmy G could be a sitting duck. We like Los Angeles in a higher-scoring game than most anticipate.
Final Score Prediction: Los Angeles 27, 49ers 20
