Falcons and Texans are the favorites
Atlanta (+400) finished a respectable 7-10 in 2021, but all the fancy metrics say Arthur Smith’s team was lucky to win seven games. With Matt Ryan out the door after 14 seasons, the Falcons will line up Marcus Mariota and rookie Desmond Ridder under center. While the team has talented pass catchers in sophomore tight end Kyle Pitts and rookie receiver Drake London, the offensive line and running back position are as ugly as it gets. And the defense may be even worse.
Houston (+450) greatly overachieved on expectations last season while still only winning four games. The roster is still a mess, but sophomore QB Davis Mills offers some hope. If rookie RB Damion Pierce delivers on the preseason hype, there’s a chance the Texans can take another step forward under new coach Lovie Smith.

Worst record contenders
Chicago (+500) is seemingly setting up Justin Fields to fail after hiring defensive-first head coach Matt Eberflus and assembling one of the worst receiving rooms in NFL history. While All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith ended his hold-out, the defense is still nothing special.
Seattle (+600) is willfully entering the year with a Geno Smith-Drew Lock platoon in football’s most important position. However, the positive training camp buzz on the Seahawks’ rookie class (especially the offensive lineman and cornerbacks) gives coach Pete Carroll and GM John Schneider a chance at surviving the post-Russell Wilson era.
Best bets to suck
All the hope swirling around the New York Jets (+900) following the 2022 NFL Draft is now in a body bag at the bottom of the Hudson. The bad news is that Joe Flacco is set to start at least two games after Zach Wilson tore his meniscus in the preseason. The worse news is the journeyman may actually be a better option than the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Staying in the Big Apple, the Giants (+2000) have won six games or less in five straight seasons. The arrival of Brian Daboll has renewed optimism in the G-Men, but this is still a barren roster with Daniel Jones at quarterback.

Washington (+3300) is also a sneaky value to finish with the league’s worst record despite being projected to have one of the easiest schedules in 2022. Carson Wentz is at QB. Antonio Gibson is on the outs. Chase Young is still hurt. Jack Del Rio is the defensive coordinator. There’s not a lot to like here.
Best Longshot: Commanders (+3300)
