The NFL Draft is the ultimate betting event with much money to be won if you can follow the breadcrumbs that football insiders and reporters leave in their mock drafts and Twitter feeds. Hutchison or Walker?

Aidan Hutchinson (-250) became the overwhelming favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick when the Jaguars franchise-tagged offensive lineman Cam Robinson. This implied Jacksonville would pass on the draft’s top pass protectors, Ikem Ekwonu (+1200) and Evan Neal (+1400), in favor of the Wolverines edge rusher. However, buzz for Travon Walker (+225) has been building steadily since his outrageous performance at the NFL Scouting Combine in early March.

If the Georgia defensive end goes first, most believe Detroit would jump at the chance to nab the Michigan man Hutchinson (+225 to go 2nd overall). Otherwise, Kayvon Thibodeaux (+400 to go 2nd overall) has been heavily connected to the Lions despite the character concerns that have been popping up around the Ducks’ defensive end.

Adding to the intrigue, an anonymous AFC coach recently said the league’s “worst kept secret is that Doug Pederson wants to go offense with that pick,” perhaps putting Ekwonu (+1200) and Neal (+1400) back in play at number one.

Malik Willis or Kenny Pickett?

In what many are calling the weakest quarterback class in years, Malik Willis (-165) is the betting favorite to be the first off the board over Kenny Pickett (+130). The dual-threat Liberty QB has a cannon arm but needs significant seasoning, while the Pittsburgh senior has been ridiculed for his tiny hands throughout the draft process.

If Pickett slips past the Panthers at No. 6 overall, the door could be slightly ajar for Matt Corral (+900) or Desmond Ridder (+1200). The odds on the Bearcats’ signal-caller have shortened significantly from +3500 over the past month, but he’s still our preferred longshot.

Wilson, London and Williams all in play

The two-horse race between Garrett Wilson (+130) and Drake London (+150) to be the first wide receiver selected on Thursday, April 28 is no more, with Jameson Williams (+250) shooting up the board from +800 a week ago. The NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah said the Alabama speedster, whose ACL recovery is apparently ahead of schedule, could even be in play for the Jets at No. 4 if the top three edge-rushers are off the board.
