After deciding to fire Brian Daboll as the head coach of the football team, the Giants of New York are now looking for a replacement. For a few days, people have been suggesting that Bill Belichick could return to the area to take over as head coach. That’s not going to happen, as on Friday night, Bill Belichick shut down rumors he wants the New York Giants job.
This surprised a lot of people, as a lot of fans of the Tar Heels of North Carolina had assumed that maybe Belichick was going to be one and done in the ACC and make a move back to the NFL soon. While that was something that people were focused on, Belichick made it clear that he wants to stay in Chapel Hill and keep coaching North Carolina.
“Since arriving in Chapel Hill, my commitment to the UNC Football program has not waivered. We have tremendous support from the university, our alumni, and the entire Carolina community,” Belichick said. “My focus remains solely on continuing to improve this team, develop our players, and build a program that makes Tar Heel fans proud.”
Bill Belichick released a statement saying he doesn’t want the Giants job
Belichick is in his first season with North Carolina. Earlier in the year, rumors arrived stating that he was either going to leave on his own accord, or get fired. Nothing has happened there and now he is quickly reminding fans in North Carolina that he’s planning to stay for the long haul. That’s bad news for the Giants.
Bill Belichick has made it clear: He won’t entertain an NFL opening.
Statement: I have great respect and genuinely care for the New York Giants organization and both the Mara and Tisch families. The New York Giants played an important role in my life and in my coaching journey.…

While this might be some disappointing news for the Giants, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t other great candidates they can go after. At the college level alone, Marcus Freeman, the coach of the Irish of Notre Dame, is another person who has been mentioned as a potential target, as the best sports betting sites have given Notre Dame strong odds to reach the College Football Playoff this year.
Freeman has also said that he isn’t focused on other openings and that he has no plans to leave Notre Dame. However, the circumstances for Belichick and Freeman are quite different, as the Notre Dame coach isn’t on the back-end of his career. If the right offer comes in from the Giants, could Freeman make the leap to the professional level? That’s unknown.
What we do know here is that Belichick doesn’t want to go back to the NFL and with him staying with UNC, it strongly hints that he’s planning to coach there until he retires. While UNC doesn’t hold strong NCAAF betting odds to win the ACC this year, Belichick is hoping to keep building things there moving forward. It will be interesting to see how the Tar Heels are able to close out the season.
